VAR Thread - 2021/22

Just seen the Leeds vs Newcastle highlights on MOTD from the weekend.

I'll start off by saying, I find myself routing against Newcastle.I don't care if they get relegated, they'll be back up the following season but it will slow them down at least. Even if they do stay up, they'll soon find out what City have done wasn't easy, nor was it just a matter of how much money they had. So many of them seem to think they can follow the same "blueprint" but they can't IMO, they couldn't even if things were the same as when City did it. They don't have a local bitter rival that's the biggest club in the world as their backstory, it would be near impossible to replicate the 93:20 moment. It might be slightly unfair of me but I can only think of that meatball head, True Geordie and his absolute bile and jealousy towards City for the past 10 years. I don't know what proportion of fans shared that sentiment but I'd wager he wasn't the only one by a long shot.

Regardless of that though, watching the game, even though they were already 1-0 up. How on earth did the VAR look at the foul on Saint-Maximin in the box and say that was fine? I laughed out loud when I saw it. I seem to recall quite a few weird decisions going against them this season too. Dare I say it, that seems like the exact type we used to get against us but those have suddenly stopped this season. Is that just a co-incidence or is there something to it?
The Yanks are running the show.
Ever since the takeover decisions towards Newcastle have had an eerily look of ours in certain games.
They got a penalty vs Norwich and boy did VAR not want to give it.
Took about 6 minutes for it to be given and I just knew then that the Yank dectated Prem League had another Eastern enemy to go after

It was no surprise that there was a 'close and exciting' finish to the F1 season due to some fu*kery with the safety car in the last race and some other contentious decisions throughout the season. Did the TV revenue the world of good that did.

I think any sport where the janks get to much power will be ruined by them. It's in their nature to take over everything and expect the world to live to their standards.

All that shows is that the on-field referee gives loads of dodgy on-field decisions to liverpooh, which the VAR then, sometimes, overrules.
Absolutely. " Lies, damnned lies and statistics " Disraeli. It's all part of the " swings and roundabouts " " things even themselves out over a season " " the table doesn't lie" myth that has been shown to be nonsense time and again. Last weekend was a classic example. Those three points they got given will be added to the three points gifted to them against Villa. The league would have been over already but as we have been informed, they "don't want to see City running away with the league ".

Without Var it be worse the amount of game they would have our player ofside while the scum are of by a foot and let the goal stand yeah at weekend it was a close Ofside for the rags but it would be worse! There was a game at spurs where a spurs player was a yard ofside goal given because no var back then!

Hopefully with the amount of people in the media calling out the pen it will calm down some now!
I remember that game. The spurs player was in line with the linesman when he received the ball, yards offside.

ive read somewhere from a southampton fan every game on 60 minutes a player goes down and a break incures in the game, dont know how true it is but ill watch out for it now
I am sure a couple of seasons ago Southampton started wasting time from the beginning. The goalkeeper would get the ball , kick the post over and over and the referee did nothing until near the end. Then he walked over to the goalkeeper had a word and helped waste another couple of minutes.

This discussion continually goes round and round.
Dippers / United get bent decision, everyone complains. City get screwed, everyone complains.
Something needs to be done, bent refs, etc, etc.
Out comes the brush, lift the carpet, sweep everything under it.

Next round of matches.

Ad infinitum
I agree but the one good thing about VAR is that there can be no more excuses of " human error " or the game "moving so quickly" . With VAR they could make the correct decisions and remove any bias IF they wanted to. VAR has highlighted what has been going on for decades, favouritism towards certain clubs that adds to their " history ".

It’s not actually VAR for me and if used correctly then could be great and my initial thought when it came in was great, it’ll stop United getting all the decisions

the problem is still shit refs, it’s a ref say in the VAR booth so it’s not like it’s a machine like goal line technology, it’s still a ref and usually a clueless one making the decisions
