VAR Thread - 2021/22

It’s not actually VAR for me and if used correctly then could be great and my initial thought when it came in was great, it’ll stop United getting all the decisions

the problem is still shit refs, it’s a ref say in the VAR booth so it’s not like it’s a machine like goal line technology, it’s still a ref and usually a clueless one making the decisions

incomptence or corruption ?

Is the relationship between PL and PiGMOL truly impartial and unbiased ?

I saw an American football game late last year over in Boston (when in Rome and all that). Despite personally not having a fxxxxn clue what was going on I loved the fact the Ref told the crowd everything was brilliant (admittedly I didn't have a clue what he was on about). If football had no concerns over corruption then they would 1) show the replays on the big screen that the ref/VAR sees and 2) the ref/VAR would tell the crowd of reasons for the decision. Easy solution and only one reason I can think of why they don't - because it would ruin the fact they can make decisions up when they want

In my opinion if there isn't a reaction from PGMOL after those 2 blatantly wrong decisions going in favour of the dippers , then it is clear that they are sticking two fingers up firmly to all football fans, and the explanation of incompetence is totally wrong.

Using VAR correctly should have seen both goals disallowed , but once again either the dippers receive decisions in their favour.

The PL clearly want a competitive league and PiGMOL are imo used to ensure exactly that .

I don't believe that incompetence is the explanation for these incidents, despite all teams suffering from them, because they happen too often in favour of certain teams .
Like you say, it's been going on for decades. If it was incompetence, wouldn't they have put it right a long time ago? If you look back at the " history " of certain teams there would be a succession of dodgy decisions. Just this past few weeks a Liverpool player should have been off in the first ten minutes against Leicester, instead they are in the final. The gap in the league could have been even more in City's favour but for ludicrous decisions in both games over the weekend.

not sure. Salah and Liverpool especially were blatant diving with zero contact before VAR
That's a good point. There are supposed to be rules regarding " simulation " yet certain teams are consistently rewarded with penalties rather than punished with bookings.

Just seen the Leeds vs Newcastle highlights on MOTD from the weekend.

I'll start off by saying, I find myself routing against Newcastle.I don't care if they get relegated, they'll be back up the following season but it will slow them down at least. Even if they do stay up, they'll soon find out what City have done wasn't easy, nor was it just a matter of how much money they had. So many of them seem to think they can follow the same "blueprint" but they can't IMO, they couldn't even if things were the same as when City did it. They don't have a local bitter rival that's the biggest club in the world as their backstory, it would be near impossible to replicate the 93:20 moment. It might be slightly unfair of me but I can only think of that meatball head, True Geordie and his absolute bile and jealousy towards City for the past 10 years. I don't know what proportion of fans shared that sentiment but I'd wager he wasn't the only one by a long shot.

Regardless of that though, watching the game, even though they were already 1-0 up. How on earth did the VAR look at the foul on Saint-Maximin in the box and say that was fine? I laughed out loud when I saw it. I seem to recall quite a few weird decisions going against them this season too. Dare I say it, that seems like the exact type we used to get against us but those have suddenly stopped this season. Is that just a co-incidence or is there something to it?
I think there is definitely something to it. I remember Rafa Benitez and his famous " fact" rant about what was going on. That was probably more than ten years ago. As one red side fell away from contention another took It's place. I think as City have got stronger and stronger the tactics for keeping the" brand" strong have become more obvious, last weekend was just a glaring example of what has been going on for decades.

It's regularly the case. Look at how many times a dodgy decision broke the deadlock for the Dipper's in their title winning season. And its not just game changing decisions; it a general disparity of the application of the LOTG that influence the outcome of games, along with referee positioning and time keeping. The players know exactly what is going on and it 100% effects their mentality and decision making.
Still people wonder why the opposition turn up for City and not for the favoured teams. They know full well they won't be allowed to compete which was shown again last weekend.

its not giving manchester city anything that we care about and we don't need help from nobody. its all about being fair and doing your job proper. being cheated is the most hated thing by me and it hurts. we are watching greatness with this manchester city team and they should not be trying its best to stop us.

they would be raving and shouting from the roof tops if it was united or liverpool but its not. we are little old man city that won the lotto and don't deserve it ?
All this talk of " Earned not Bought " is a nonsense too. Clubs usually had investment in order to compete, going back decades. Some clubs prefer though to ignore this part of their " history " and get together to change or make up rules to stop others from having similar opportunities. United hadn't won the league for the best part of three decades when they spent a fortune.
