VAR thread 2022/23

It was stated that the onfield ref was not shown the reverse angle which showed the push was clear. That is basically unforgiveable.
If VAR didn't have the angle to review, there has to be a question as to why not.
They obviously have as he’s been axed for the weekend. Their version of detention after school.

He shouldn’t be allowed back on VAR until he’s completed the necessary refresher courses to allow him to know what a foul is.

Agree with most of that barring the last bit.

If fans knew the rationale behind the decisions, I think it’d go a long way to making fans more accepting.

I don't think we disagree, or maybe there's just minterpretation.

I would like a recording of an entire incident with all the conversations to show what was said. Transparency and clarity.
I think you said above that the pundits, comms, etc are often wrong about the laws and how they should be applied. Hearing the ref stating the reasoning would help on that.

There are not many large organisations who are so secretive they don’t have a website. That tells its own story about the lack of transparency. What about their finances?

Oh, I agree with you - just thinking how RIley would answer it!
I think it's known that they are paid by the PL.

Yep all that sounds good to me.

The bit I questioned was VAR hearing Neville or whoever is on commentary whilst making decisions. As far as I’m aware that isn’t the case.

The VAR ref is already disconnected from the game by virtue of the fact they aren't fully immersed in what is going on, and they can only see the action on a relatively small screen in 2-dimensions. Putting a less experience referee in that situation will only compound the disconnect.
After that Eriksson var we might as well not bother with a ref.

Is it known whether he was dropped for anything particularly, or whether it was for getting it badly wrong with what he looked at?
I assume VAR decides on the angles to show the onfield ref; if so, he's clearly ballsed it up totally and that's inexcusable.

He was of course in charge of VAR last season!

Ah, misinterpretation, I think.
I said VAR was in contact with the TV companies, not the comms. VAR would have to be to get the footage to review.

I also recall the clear statement that VAR do not hear the comms. I think that must be true, as you'd have to utterly stupid to be caught in an out and out lie.

Sudden thought (they happen occasionally) which foot would it be measured on? Back foot or front foot?
PGMOL would clearly define the most simple solution. So, average position of both feet, with perpendicular lines drawn up from the pitch to the nose for comparison, all images taken from the other end of the pitch to counter the effects of parallax.

They say the TV firms don’t talk to the VAR team but they must do because the broadcasters own the footage and manage the camera angles. I trust referees more than the broadcasters who we know are partisan for certain teams.
Backed up by incidents when VAR appears to be shown only certain angles of an incident, with other camera angles available but not shown. Llorente's goal for Spurs is a case in point, where we were knocked out of the CL because the VAR was not shown the handball camera angle.
