VAR thread 2022/23

There are not many large organisations who are so secretive they don’t have a website. That tells its own story about the lack of transparency. What about their finances?
Also there is no independent scrutiny of the review process. We all just have to accept it was done fairly.

Why not allow observers into the review room to make sure everything is above board?

Agree with most of that barring the last bit.

If fans knew the rationale behind the decisions, I think it’d go a long way to making fans more accepting.

I've raised this point before

how about they released the transcript for Bowen incident

VAR 'We think there might be a foul on Mendy in the build up'
Ref ' Let me have a look'
Ref 'oh yeh, I can see his made contact with Mendy with his foot, looks like I'll have to rule out the goal

where does that get us ?

will be the same level if not more outrage, every detail of the script will be overanalysed and even more scrutiny and pressure on the officials.

I'm not against any of the above, but I'm pretty certain it won't appease the majority of angry folk

It’s not known how they communicate, so it’s hard for us to make an informed judgement.

You‘d hope it would be better than your example though.

If I look at a field of grass I see it as green, you, I would imagine, see it as green also. When I see decisions like at Chelsea and Newcastle when VAR unbelievably rule foul, its like they are telling me what I've seen isn't so. They are telling me not to believe my own eyes, ie grass is red.

Or he could say I can see he made contact but Mendy instigated it and compounded it by losing the ball . The goal strands.

Proof please

How can you prove anything doesn’t happen? There’s interviews easily found where they explain exactly what goes on in there. It is explicitly stated by FIFA that there must be no outside interference in the VAR room and it specifically uses TV broadcasts as an example. If you don’t believe them, fair enough.
