Someone is making money out of it.
Well sure, the manufacturers of the technology. All the monitors, earpieces, communication system being bought by FIFA, the Premier League, etc. But what I'm getting at is that for the leagues, clubs etc, it's an expense. It's a cost that wasn't there before, not only to buy the equipment but to maintain it.

It would be interesting to see if there were any characters linked to the implementation of VAR having any financial ties to the company that make the technology.

Well they would just be there for the howler, they shouldn't be getting involved much at all. They would just be there in case of something blatant that was missed. Your complaint that they did "fuck all" when that was tried in the past isn't a bad thing. That was probably because there was no need for them to get involved because nothing major was missed. When that was tested, do you recall any howlers or any reason for them to get involved?

The end line assistants would also be better suited to communicate with the VAR crew upstairs rather than the main referee being distracted by the VARs. The primary issue with the VAR system in place is how they are able to influence the referee by having a direct line to the referee. Also the main referee shouldn't be running over to a monitor at mid pitch. VAR (systemically) would be better with end line assistants being the video reviewers on the pitch rather than the main referee. VAR would be much better if the VARs could only communicate with the end line assistants, then the end line assistants could review and decide whether they need to notify the main referee of a missed error.

I bring this up because, as much as much as I want VAR gone completely, as it stands, the system in place is so poorly designed that I want to at least try to show a way that it could possibly be improved. I have yet to hear any real suggestions to make VAR better. End line assistants could not only see incidents that the main referee misses, but they could also be the ones to communicate with the VARs upstairs, and perhaps review footage from an end line monitor, and then advise the main referee by stepping on to the pitch and getting his attention. I don't like the fact that the main referee has an earpiece. I would like to see the main referee not have an earpiece, and task the end line assistants who are stationed near each goal to be the ones to communicate with the VARs upstairs, and review the footage, so the main referee can fully focus on the match at hand, and wouldn't have to be distracted by the VARs in his ear.
I don’t remember specific incidents with those touchline linesman but I do recall people asking what they did because they never seemed to intervene on penalties etc. in regard the video monitor why can’t the 4th official could do that but that brings into question who is in charge of the game? If he looks an incident and seems it a penalty etc does he then blow a whistle if the ref isn’t micked up stopping the game? I think the laws make the job difficult for them as some are open to interpretation and basically they should be black and white. I think they actually like the controversy of it al, it keeps football in the headline good it bad, can you imagine if it was right there’d be no talking points or arguments it would be stale. I’ve watched quite a bit if American sport lately and there’s never that much question of decisions it’s more about the teams and performances.

There are no definitive rules around handball. It's a judgement.

This is part of Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct. This is basic knowledge for all referees.

And within those laws they're are different interpretations. So many. And it's why all pundits, fans , even refs differ in their opinions and that's even knowing the rules.

I'm sure. It's a judgement in which there is not always the right answer, because everyone has a different opinion.

So the above plainly shows West Hams penalty against Bournemouth was plain and simple VAR ref cheating, as he didn't deliberately handle it, and his arms/hands weren't in an unnatural position....unless you think the natural arm position whilst sliding is having your hands under your ass? Sorry but it's not even debatable.

You mean like when the Football Association pushed for all seater stadiums and by total co-incidence, the former head (and others linked to the F.A.) owned a plastic seat manufacturing company that they'd bought just months before ?
Oh and the first contract they got was for .....Hillsborough.

It's not just individuals who will be ruined. If it ever came out it could potentially call into question the legitimacy of PL titles as well as prize money for league placement. We are talking £BILLIONS!!!

At this point in time it's almost too big to fail, so you can understand why they have been so reluctant to admit 'mistakes' have been made. It has the potential to bring the whole thing crashing down.

But why on earth would they want to listen to the commentary in the first place?
