VAR thread 2022/23

The day a video referee disallows a goal because a player encroached by a yard on KICK-OFF is the day we should just pack it all up.

Either the referee spots it and stops play immediately or we just carry on.

To disallow a goal for that is an absurdly disproportionate punishment for a minor infringement. It’s like sending somebody off for a foul throw.
Bet City will be the first to have someone sent off for a foul throw.

First Bournemouth goal at the weekend should have been ruled out.

It shouldn’t. If the referee had noticed it at the time he may have immediately ordered a retake. But once that moment has passed there’s no provision for bringing it back. The VAR can’t get involved in minor infringements like that.

There was incidentally another goal at the weekend ( Southampton’s ) with the tolerance level applied, where the goalscorer was technically very narrowly offside.

It’s great. It’s definitely not being used to allow for the application of the laws of the game to be even more inconsistent and/or arbitrary.

I'm quite glad they allowed that last goal against Wolves. Sure Traore was fouled but they'd open up a Pandoras box of players deciding when they've been fouled. He should play to the whistle.

You’ve made my point in your post. “Sure, he was fouled”. If it was a foul then VAR should have disallowed the goal. Whether he stopped or not is irrelevant, Leeds broke the rules.
An inexplicable decision yet again and if they can get away with this, then God knows what might happen to us in the run in

VAR is supposed to review ALL red cards, but it was miraculously absent when the referee INCORRECTLY gave Willan his marching orders for 'deliberate' handball when his arms were tucked in trying to avoid the ball. He'd have missed the ball completely if he'd had his arms outstretched.

The referee made a clear and obvious error; VAR went walkabout.
