VAR thread 2022/23

The main worry is that at the time Dean didn't believe hair pulling came under the "violent conduct" law. Now he has supposedly been one of our top 2-3 refs for over 20 years. It beggars belief. Until he actually went home and read the law he had no idea an infringement had occurred. Yet he has not only been tasked with improving how VAR is used but is also training other officials how to use it.

Dean says his mistake was that he didn't think the hair pulling was violent conduct, so he didn't ask referee Taylor to look at the video monitor. In other words, Dean decided that a red card was not warranted. Dean decided to become the referee of that incident in the game, even though he was only the VAR.

Typical of Dean this. His is the only opinion that matters in real time. He really isn't fit to be a VAR, because he will take decisions away from the only person that should be making those decisions - the referee.

In this case, he should have realised that Taylor might have had a different opinion to Dean, and asked Taylor to look at the incident to decide whether or not violent conduct had occurred. Taylor would then have agreed with Dean, or gone against Dean and issued a red card.

This still doesn't absolve Taylor of his incompetence in not seeing the incident in the first place, as it was directly in front of him.
You are being far to harsh. He's said he was sorry, I think we should all just forget about it now.
Poor Mike Dean, everyone forgets he was forced into the var job, he didn't want it you know. He wanted to be an astronaut.

That's like a cop saying he didn't know punching someone was assault. If you are a ref and you don't know basic laws you are stealing a living.
VAR is not the problem, it is the clueless, self opinionated wankers using it that is.

Where in the laws of the game does it specify hair pulling is a red card offence ?

It doesn’t say kneeing someone in the balls is either. If it happened in the street it would be assault. It’s incredible that Dean thinks it is not a foul. If he doesn’t it’s open day on all the long haired players!!

Not sticking up for ref, It should absolutely be mentioned as a law or categorically come under violent conduct

Dean admits he fucks up after the fact.

The manipulated result still stands because of his "error". That's what they wanted.

It doesn’t and you won’t find biting or eye gouging or many other violent acts specifically mentioned. That is the point you are missing or being awkward about.
A violent act is a red card offence, whatever form it takes and the fact our supposed Top Ref didn’t recognise hair pulling as a violent act is staggering.
