VAR thread 2022/23

To clarify regarding the handball rule changes for the build up of goals, referees and VAR can still disallow goals for deliberate handballs in the build up. The simplification was regarding accidental handballs in the buildup (as long as the hand/arm aren’t used to directly score).

This was a deliberate handball that setup the attack just like a pass by TAA (without his arm stuck out the ball is played past him, setting up a Leeds counter). You can see TAA move his elbow out as the ball was played and the ball goes in the exact opposite direction after hitting TAA’s arm. Two passes later they score, with TAA getting an assist (he wouldn’t have been in that position if not for the handball and the huge bounce toward goal).

It was an obvious unfair advantage gained that VAR chose to ignore for… reasons.
Anyone still defending VAR at this point is deluded.

It's utterly subjective, and decisions in one game can be turned on their heads in other games, often the same referee. In some cases it happens in the same game. They literally make shit up to suit their desired outcome.

It's made the implementation of Scudamore's 'strategic plan' so much easier with ZERO accountability or independent scrutiny.

Yesterday was a disgrace. Maguire deemed not to be a handball and yet later they said that if someone hadn’t been offside that the ‘goal’ wouldn’t have stood because it hit the attackers elbow.

So i guess Webb will publicly give Leeds an apology for decisions made against them this evening big deal ! Why doesn't a club challenge them in court ? what has a club that is probably going to get demoted have to lose ? Unless they are getting compensated in someway ?

It’s colour blind….

Yet again!

Interesting how quick the semi automated offside reviews took tonight. Can’t have been more than about 30 seconds on either of them. And they were both very close ones.

Seems an age ago now but I don’t remember them been that quick at the World Cup?

There was expected to be an announcement from the Premier League at some point this season that they were switching to it from next season but not heard about that confirmation yet.

Pros and cons as always but only just seen this, 2 clear penalties that would have been denied pre VAR and even worse the player getting fouled being booked for simulation

The thing is mate, there shouldn’t be pros and cons. Its only use is to make the game pretty full proof- which it doesn’t. There are as many contentious decisions - if not more - than there were before it. If we have to accept the crap of not being able to celebrate a goal - then it must be close to 100% accurate, not 50%. The handball rule changes don’t help. Both of last nights were ridiculous. And the uefa AI offside system is streets ahead of our wiggly lines. Until the tech is right then it should be suspended.

Tbf blue hammer has already said that VAR should be withdrawn
