Vat on Independent school fees?

I don't have to though realy, that would mean me explaining myself or teaching you my meaning, just google it, sure loads of explanations will come upon the topic of why practical teaching isn't necessary over online videos

Shame your original comment was a non sequitur, that would have been a good comeback.

Unfortunately you can’t explain how someone being able to learn how to fix something from the internet is the same as telling them to throw it away because that’s obviously complete bollocks.

If your degree isn’t likely to secure you a job that will provide the income level required to repay your student loan in full, then it’s not worthwhile for society.

Most nurses don’t pay back their student loans.

So by your definition in 2024, nursing degrees are not worthwhile to society.

We were given the option and I did home economics rather than woodwork. Taught me the basics of cooking and was useful later on in life. This was early 70’s.
We didn’t have the option, so although my cooking skills are somewhat limited, I know how to make a tie rack out of wood and an ash tray out of metal. Useful stuff.

The most useful subject I did at school was actually technical drawing. It’s the only one where I actually used the skills I learnt in my career as an engineer. Probably more useful than my engineering degree tbh, although I wouldn’t have got the job without the degree and it provided the qualification needed to become chartered.

His world is different to the vast majority of people.

Which is a good thing.

He actually lives in the real world with the rest of us.

Which is part of the shame of it really. He doesn’t have to experience the fucking catastrophe that would follow if he actually ever got the things he says he wants.

Girls did home economics and cooking when I was at school in the 70s. Boys did woodwork, metalwork and tech drawing.

At my all boys comprehensive (don't ask) we did all of the above, though which twat thought it was a good idea to allow a bunch of fuckwit lads lose with hot irons lord only knows.

So you think the current system works well and we should just leave it alone, without questioning what actually works for society and how degrees are funded?
It is what actually works for society that needs to be revalued: a banker will be repaying their student loan almost immediately but a teacher or nurse possibly never.

We should always question what we do, of course, but we have arrived at a situation of a failing economy, and a failing society, because of our values.

And you live in a real world where public spending and taxes aren’t linked. Makes sense.

Thankfully nursing undergraduates get additional funding from the NHS which doesn’t have to be repaid, and I think this should be increased.

Sorry but that’s irrelevant and so is what would be the case if you were in charge.

As it stands, a nurse who goes to university will never pay off their student loan from working as a nurse.

That makes them worthless by your own logic.

So either nurses are worthless or your theory about degrees has completely fallen apart after the briefest examination.
