Vat on Independent school fees?

There are different forms of intelligence.

Some people can take a car engine to pieces and put it together again. I'd struggle with that, but my IQ is just below MENSA level. I've also known some amazingly intelligent chaps with no practical side. When it comes to day-to-day tasks, they haven't a clue.

I suspect the human race complements itself - that is, society works best by employing individual talents in the best way to serve the collective good. We can't all become Prime Minister, but most of us have something to offer.

What shocked me the other day was the £1 parking fee I paid had separated the fee from the VAT. Seventeen fuckin' pence off to Rachel for me parking for an hour. Value added? What fuckin' value?

you got a parking space all to yourself. You could have got a bus or walked to your destination and saved a quid

While VAT is quite an annoying tax, the truth is that the alternative would be other taxes. You could, for example, put 10p on income tax and reduce VAT significantly. One beauty of VAT is that, unlike IT, it is quite hard to evade.

MTIC fraud on trade activity across the EU costs billions in lost VAT revenue each year.

It was a major issue for the HMRC prior to Brexit - the increased customs declarations have made the fraud more difficult to implement now.

I actually think that this reduced scope for MTIC fraud has influenced the UK trade data since Brexit, and exaggerated the reported weakness in trade vis-a-vis the EU.

Is 70 classed as just below these days?

Trouble is VAT is supposed to be a tax on luxury goods that add value to our life, whereas I think that is a long lost belief.

Surely all the carousel stuff ultimately related to imports?

Whatever you do or don't think of the policy it appears not to have had any impact on secondary school admissions for the next school year. Councils seem to be reporting business as usual, no spikes and no discernable impact on percentage of parents receiving first choices etc.

Whether or not the policy results in a mid to long term increase in demand for state school places in the short term it doesn't appear to have caused an immediate problem which is good.

Fairly obvious, mountain out of a mole hill by the media who don’t have the best interest of this country at heart.
