Venezuela economy

Ha, of course there were no ulterior motives when you started this thread. Your concern about the plight of the Venezuelan people is admirable.

My concern about the people of Venezuela is probably on a par with yours. It was a simple thread highlighting an interesting topic. Of course as it highlights a potential downside of socialism the aggressive left get sarcastic.

Have you see a socialist economy work?

As I've already stated the right use Venezuela as the go to for socialism the left ise Sweden.

And again, why have the embargoes on Venezuela not been mentioned and how they've been a huge influence on tue economic downfall of the country?

Not whataboutery and something im still waiting for the OP to answer.
Venezuela was the richest country in South America with the worlds largest oil reserves, full on socialism was introduced,
and now the country is a complete basket case. Sweden does not have a socialist system ie; state control of production,
distribution and exchange, its government doesn't control major industries.
Venezuela does, and the result is always the same, an inexorable decline in living standards, finally resulting in rampant inflation
and chaos.
So discounting Sweden, where has socialism worked?

It's very hard to find one that has.

true. best case scenario, IMO, is nations like the scandis, NZ, who make the free market work with a comparatively high commitment to welfare. there's a reason they tend to get consinstently voted as having amongst the best quality of life.

All this is is a whinge about the drop in oil prices not being able to fund the fairytale policies that have ruined the place.
It then goes on to say how great Cuba and the Soviet Union is/were, which is laughable, nobody ever wanted to flock
to Havana or Moscow because of the wonderful living conditions, plenty tried, and still do,attempt to get out of Cuba.
I wonder why?
The kneejerk reaction to whenever this system fails is to blame the west and 'Outside interference,' was it America's
doing that made Venezuela the richest country on the continent? Or was it perhaps because they didn't, at the time,
have a system that has never worked anywhere.
