not sure we need him really, already got Barry, DJ and Kompany who play that position.

One of the great players of the last 10/15 years but not sure he's the same player now.

Difficult to keep so many players happy

Whilst it is difficult to keep so many players happy , as you rightly say , we DO need quality midfield reinforcements ....... half the reason whay we've shed so many goals this season is because teams have been walking through our midfield on occasions , and creating so many chances against us.

Gareth Barry flatters to decieve , just as he did at Aston Villa ....... and Stephen Ireland is not having the most consistent of seasons for one reason or another , not least injury ....... De Jong is also a bit hit and miss on occasion .

It would appear that Viera is getting on a bit now , but he still gets games at Inter , and he does have a wealth of experience , so he could be useful signing for the tough months ahead ...... as a short-term 'stop-gap' signing , it's a good move.

go for the hard as nails midfield pairing of Dejong and Viera. Then we're all set for truly Italian 1-0 victories.

I will sit on the fence on this 1. Yes it is a good deal with no fee involved. He will add experience to the squad and a bit of height. I dont see him playing a lot of games. De Jong has done wonders this season and I see Vieira as his back up in case he gets injured. Maybe a defence option like Desially when he went to Chelsea while Toure is away and only having Kompany as a fit centre back that is were I see Vieira starting out in the team. A bit of experience to the defence will be needed in the next month. Long term cant see him getting many chances in the team. A no risk signing for me if it dont work out nothing is lost. Also will help the current midfielders at the club he has done it all in football.

he wont be coming in as cover though will he. he wants to get in the world cup squad so will have wanted assurances that he will play. personally i think this is a stupid move. a loan would of been fine but to offer him a lengthy contract on probably astronomical wages is plain daft. i thought we might have stopped signing past it players now we have money. clearly not.

Agreed.

This, this and this again.

We are supposidly the richest and soon to be biggest club in the world yet the best we can do is bring in players that our past their prime.

George Weah, Steve McMoneyman and several others immidiatley spring to me.

If we sign a RB then Richards maybe off but Veira is a midfielder so no chance

IMO the only thing that could happen with Veira signing is Vinnie dropping to CB and one less CB needed this window

thats what i see happening mate, big vinnie will drop back and vieira can move into midfield

This singing does not and never will impact Kompany - essentially Kompany has always been a centre back at his othjer clubs and this season through injuiry - form or new players coming he has only ever been used as a stop gap this season in mid field - the big impact for this signing is going to be Barry or DJ or Superman - for me it is probably DJ who is going to suffer and loose playing time which does xoncern me

Nothing like giving the guy a chance is there?

Honestly some of you are like spoilt brats wanting £30m signings all the time.

your name suits. Vieira is a winner. Fit and hungry looking to get in a world cup squad. An absolute top quality player. This is a no lose situation. Get a fucking grip on yourselves.

I agree to a point but as good as De Jong is Barry has been fairly inconsistent with us being shit as many times as he's been excellent! I think it will kick Barry up the arse and give him a challenge for his place! and even if Viera hardly gets a game for us (which I don't think he will to be honest) what I think he will bring is a the presence and experience of a winner to our squad - something we simply do not have! Toure won things with Arsenal but with him in+out of their team for a few years before we signed him and his many poor performances for us this season I don't consider him a winner; Tevez won top trophies with United but he wasn't exactly one of the main men and reasons why, he was on the bench most of the time; SWP and Bridge won things at Chelsea but were merely bit part players.. and other than that no other players have even been near a trophy let alone been a main player in a side who've won many!

whereas Viera has won and been a major if not the main factor sometimes in teams that have won many trophies! Lg Cup wins, FA Cup wins, Prem titles, Copa Italias, Serie A titles, a European Championships and a World Cup win! and Viera was a main player and influence in all of these!
he may not be the player he was but I don't think Mancini has brought him in to give performances in midfield to win us the Lg Cup or get us 4th place, I think he's there for his experience and presence in the squad to influence our average, good, top, young and older players!

Pairing DJ and Vierra together will be dire - both are essentially holding midfield players who are destructive players rather then creative players - it is DJ who is likely to suffer - for me Vierra is not a bad signing its the impact to the other players that i am concerned about - a new left back yes please a new right back yes please and maybe a new right winger yes but just dont see a new holding midfield player.
