Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv - away fans banned | MTA confirm they will refuse any allocation for safety reasons (p26)

A proportion of their supporters will be arseholes that should be arrested should they cross lines. You start claiming an entire fanbase is that by default and you are in dangerous territory. We all know who's at risk in this city and your deluded if you think it's the local community, nobody would be a match for them. They literally chased sky news reporters out of town last year for having the audacity to turn and report.
But this has happened loads of times previously so why the sudden outrage now? It was only 2 seasons ago that Legia Warsaw fans were banned from entering your stadium because some of their fans were playing up outside. Not all their fans were involved but their whole travelling support was treated as a collective and they were locked out of Villa Park.

I accept that there are more layers to this one and that any potential trouble could be a two way thing but the way I see it is that this isn't just about guaranteeing the safety of the Maccabi fans but also the safety of those in the local community, and of course the safety of Villa fans in general. A quick scan of Villa Talk shows that the majority are in favour of the decision.

just over 1600 English football hooligans were banned from attending the 2024 Euros.Had to hand their passports in and couldn't travel for the duration.
The banning of football "hooligans" from attending football matches abroad isn't unusual or bad .
As I recall Politicans were quite in favour of it back then.

It doesn't matter how many times you say it; that is not the sole reason.
You try and push that narrative, sunshine.

The facts are, they’ve banned the entire fanbase from travelling because they’re concerned the local community won’t behave themselves and the travelling fan base will be at risk.

Not entirely sure how we’ve got to this destination, but that’s where the UK currently is.

But the nasty chanting can cause tempers to go off and then people get hurt, so surely you understand the logic of wanting to ban the away fans?
Of course.
I said previously maybe escort them in and out in coaches so they don’t mix with the locals?
On the flip side, i remember Galatasary fans being banned from Elland road - but that said, Maccaba fans/supporters havent killed anyone - they are not the IDF.
There are Maccaba fans wanting to go to a football game and cheer on their team - some are from Cheetham Hill

I’ve not got the answer but it’s shitty place to be in - all this over a 90min game of football

This decision is based on current intelligence and previous incidents, including violent clashes and hate crime offences that occurred during the 2024 UEFA Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Amsterdam.

Yes, the Maccabi fans need to be protected from the Birmingham locals that famously travelled to Amsterdam that night and carried out those violent clashes and hate crime offences.

Sounds like the local MP and people on here can't make up their minds if it's a safety concern or if it's because they believe Israel should be sanctioned.

Lol keep thinking chanting "death to Arabs" -as their fans always do- in Birmingham streets won't cause any trouble, political or not, the fake outrage from you and politicians over this is laughable.
But fans aren't banned for singing about Heysel, Hillsborough, smashing faces with bricks, anti semitic chants against Spurs, telling opposition fans that they'll never make the station, imitating getting stabbed to wind up Leeds fans etc etc. The Gaza MP has stirred up division, most sensible Villa fans are appalled by the decision. And those of us who are old enough can remember how the WMP used to police games, so it's bollocks that they think less than 1k away fans are an issue. It's the locals who will be the problem and I don't mean ordinary Villa fans

I do a collection right next to villa park once a week. From what I ve seen it's a massive Muslim community probably 90% all the way to perry bar. There is also several homeless people next to the Tesco that hang out there near the away end. It would be a nightmare to police I think they have made a good choice. It takes one chant from either sets of faith and it's gone off.

Ajax fans were banned from Marseille recently, plenty of Old firm matches have had no away fans, and there are other examples too, most sensible Villa fans shouldn't give a shit about this decision because it's absolutely nothing compared to actual important things, and yes if you chant "death to Arabs" everywhere you go you should expect some problems in some places, but keep living in fantasy land.

How do you know most sensible Villa fans are appalled by this? Genuine question.

Not sure when you last went to a match but tragedy chanting carries a 3 year ban these days and I'm sure anyone caught smashing someone's face with a brick would get a ban so stop chatting shit

And from what I've read on the main Villa forum this morning, most of them agree with the decision so for you to say that most sensible Villa fans agree with the decision is, frankly, bollocks. I doubt you know many - if any - Villa fans. You're just bringing your blatant bias from the Middle East thread into this discussion

Does feel like the whole thing has been handled pretty badly, not helped by the clumsy interventions of Starmer and Badenoch. They should have just gone ahead with it, but perhaps given Maccabi a reduced allocation based on what happened in Amsterdam, and then policed it to fuck to prevent any major trouble on the night. It's now become a far bigger political issue than it should have been.

I think that it’s easier to say, as an outsider looking in, but a lot more difficult if you are responsible for the publics safety and have responsibility to make that decision. I would not want to be the person charged with making that decision.

For those making the decision the likelihood of the politics would be an irrelevance. The question would be do we have the manpower to manage fans safely over a 2/3 day period and keep the general public safe. The politics is for politicians to ponder.

You are missing the point. Maccabi fans are being banned because the police can't guarantee their safety from the locals. Ajax were banned because of previous clashes with Marseille and when other Dutch clubs travelled there, we all know why the old firm ban each other.

Maccabi Tel Aviv do not have a reputation for trouble where they travel despite all the idiots on here claiming they do. Less than 1,000 were expected to attend and the majority would have been British based Jews who would have no requirement for spending time in the city. They are being banned as the locals can't be trusted to behave.
