Villas-Boas calls for 'B' teams

When clubs start to network together and help fund coaching directly in schools, this is when we will see the improvements.
When there are proper coaches in the school, rather than your history teacher, who know's how to develop skills/technique and isn't concerned about beating the school across the road in a match, then is when we will see the improvements.

There is too much concern about the result, by any means necessary we must win this match.
Sure you can install competitiveness in someone but this must come after learning how to win, and spending alot of time during the key ages of development in learning technique.

Imagine if you say went to a school near to i dunno, Nottingham, and there were football coaches funded by both Forest & County who go from school to school, and focus primarily on teaching you how to play the game, rather than focussing on winning a game.

You'll be alot better at footbal now.

Once this is inplace we wouldn't have to worry much about city having a B team competiting against the likes of Notts County as tbh there would be a wealth of potential talent plying their trade in these leagues anyway, more comfortable on the ball, taught how to play rather than just hoofing the ball up to the big lad in the number 10 shirt.

Do any other leagues apart from La Liga do this?

I'd imagine it causes issues on Cup draws.

I'd imagine only a few clubs have a large enough academy pool to participate in this, us, rags, chelsea, Arsenal plus I assume Spurs & Liverpool. Can't really see any negatives for us going forward, but to be fair, it does make for more of a Top 6 getting better when others don't have that option however.

It does sound like a good idea and I wouldn't be surprised if we could get a decent crowd in the new proposed 7.5k stadium being built in the new complex.

Germany do this as well.

Figures top 2 footballing nations in Europe.

Reserve teams can play maximum League 3 in germany. (currently the reserves of Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart are in that league). They are not allowed to play in Bundesliga 1 and 2 and they are banned from the cup.
Most of the reserve teams are playing in League 4 and that makes many of the other clubs there angry. Because reserve teams have no fans, home and away, which causes financial trouble for the other clubs. And tv stations are not interested in showing matches with reserve teams

As an fan of the lower leagues (Oldham fan here btw!), I think this would hurt sides like us even more. Teams like us are already struggling to keep hold of our good youngsters with the threat of them being poached for next to nothing by the bigger boys but there's still a good number of them who would rather stay at said lower league club than go to play for the likes of a premier league reserve team. However, if the likes of City B, United B, Liverpool B etc were to feature in the top4 english divisions (even the top 2 english divisions) then I think it would be even harder. I'd imagine every young player from a club like Oldham, Rochdale, Bury etc would much rather play for someone like City B or United B if they were in the same division.

I'm all for making our leagues better and helping develop our national side but not at the expense of our league status/existence.

I quite like the idea, I think rather than be the detriment to lower league clubs it might help them, they would certainley get bigger crowds!

People are right something is wrong with our coaching system, I refuse to beleive that a with a population pushing the 70 million mark we still can't produce the same amount of quality players that other smaller countries do, it all goes down to the governance of the sport to be honest, it needs route and branch reform from the top down

Shite idea.
Agreed. The last thing our domestic competition needs is the richer teams getting even stronger, especially when knobs like AVB want it to happen at the expense of lower-league teams with long histories and traditions.

How exactly is it at their expense? The idea is to give academy products competitive experience as a team and its wildly successful in other leagues. At the moment Prem clubs maraud any talent from your lower league teams with rich history so they never have any chance of progressing. People wonder why Spain, Germany and Holland consistently produce vastly superior talent to us and then scoff at the idea of doing what they've done to achieve it.

This is something I can't understand why England doesn't do. It is so obvious that reserves league can't give youngsters this valuable experience playing against real teams. Start from bottom now, in couple of years some better B teams will be close to or in Championship, let the players develop. Reserves league is a joke

In order to prove his point it looks like he has been fielding his B team in the prem lol

Let's say City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and United all decide to establish B teams. Not only does the gap between those teams and the rest of the Premier League get even bigger than it already is, six teams with long and proud histories also presumably get displaced from the Football League, all to appease the whim of the rich and mighty at the top of the game. That's what I meant by 'at their expense'.

Ever since the takeover I have thought that we should have a 'B' team rather than a reserve team
Now that we have disbanded the reserves it makes even more sense
Our young players would get to play 'the city way' rather than be scattered to the four corners of the uk, and abroad, playing for a rag tag bunch of teams.
If we started this now we would have to play at the bottom of the league pyramid but we should see them progress with time
Might even help, with FFPR in that we could buy players for the 'B' team and then transfer them to the first team when their contracts are ending!
