Vincent Kompany 2015/16 performances

This is an incredibly self-centred view. Can you quantify education and all the things your birth country give you? From the club's point of view it is probably the best if there were no Euros and international friendlies at all, but you have to respect the player's wish to be patriotic and play for his country at the Euros. May not be good for his long-term health, but paying him £200k pw does not mean we can strip him of such freedom of choice. What the club can do is to arrange for the best care in their power and wait to see if he can recover. Since we will be getting new centre-backs next season, he should have more time to manage his conditions.
No one is proposing stripping him of his choice. It's a decision he (and Yaya) should have come to themselves. I remember him playing for Belgium against our medical advice and crocking himself all over again. There comes a time in every player's career when they need to retire from international football to prolong their top flight career.

That time has come for Kompany. Early it is true, but it has come. He has a choice, get fit over the summer and come back, to fight for his place under a new manager with fresh competition or play for Belgium. If he chooses the latter he cannot be surprised if Pep puts him on the Go list. But I suspect he's on hat list anyway.

I'd prefer a fit and rested Kompany fighting for his place next season because he's by far the best CB we've had since Dave Watsons day.

It's hard to watch him suffering like he has been. In fact it's heartbreaking considering what he's given the club and it's the main reason I tend to go a bit OTT when I read some of the bile aimed at him or snide comments. Every single City supporter should be gutted how his season has panned out.
It would be a huge shame if this is the end for him.

Echo every sentiment mate. If we (the fans) are disappointed it's impossible to imagine how he feels this morning or where he gets the motivation to continue from. The real worry is that (a) at this stage we'll never find the cause of his injuries and (b) even if we do know it won't make them preventable. He's lasted 10 minutes after an intense run of games and 10 minutes after being rested, I don't know where else he goes from here.

Totally agree. More than any other City employee post 2008, we wouldn't be where we are without him. I just hope City retain him as a coach if he ends up not being able to continue at this level.

I still hope by some miracle he can of course.

In an ideal world you'd have Kompany leading our defence going into next season because, in terms of his leadership and his footballing ability he's still got a huge amount to offer. The issue is his ability to actually get on, and stay on, the pitch. He's an injury waiting to happen, if it's not persistent calf injuries then it's other injuries no doubt related to either trying to compensate for his calf or due to a lack of ability to train fully, due to his calf. You can't go into a season so reliant on a player who is seriously unlikely to be able to keep himself fit and available for selection. It's a gut wrenching decision but, for the good f Manchester City ON the playing field, Kompany can't be used as one of our defensive unit next season. Zabaleta is another gut wrenching decision however, in his case, the footballing ability is on the wane and it would solely be an emotional call if he stayed. Kompany has the ability but his body lets him down far too often. Tough on him, tough on City.

Well that read better than the one last night calling him "a piece of shit"

I agree with that. But at the end of the day I'm not Vincent Kompany so I will respect his decision. If he decide to retire from international football, then thank God for that. But if he doesn't, I wouldn't think any less of him. This is the original point I wanted to make because some are thinking that he owed the club. And I think he would still be in the club next year even if he participated in the Euros, as long as he didn't get injured again. But we probably shouldn't rely on him as much as we do now. I really hope that he can stay and learn from the best coach.

I think VK is working too hard on his come backs from injury. You hear in the interviews he does that when he suffers an injury setback he doubles his effort to come back stronger, and that no one will work harder than him. I think someone needs to take him to one side and say “Vinny it isn’t working mate and if anything you are getting worse.”
Footballers these days are like athletes. It seems to get the best out of them they have to be on a knife-edge of peak condition and injury. You certainly seem to get more muscle injuries these days than in the days players would drink and smoke in pubs after games.
I’m not saying players should stop training so hard and go back to the days of just playing five-a-side, I’m just saying there are some exceptions to the rule. Craig Bellamy and Ledley King are two that spring to mind, where grinding themselves in to the dirt training all the time was counter-productive.
Vinny needs to try something different as it clearly isn’t working. I’d love him to take the summer off and let his body rest, but we have the Euro’s, so no doubt he will be working like a mad man to get fit again.
Something has to change though, as much as I love the man and think he represents City better than anyone else in my lifetime you can’t have a professional footballer that breaks down every couple of games. So please Vinny, try something different mate, working harder every time is seeming to make your body break down even more often.

I think he's just too bulky for the super quick demands of top level football now.

His upper body is very large and when somebody of his size has to twist and turn at a high speed, especially with his injury record, there's going to be problems. I don't see these injuries going anyway unless Kompany's physique changes.

I can't think of many players, if any, with Kompany's build and playing top level football.

Sadly i was not surprised he broke down again last night,it's gutwrenching for him and sad for us,next season i think nico will take his place on the field as i'm convinced pep sanctioned his purchase and he will probably be the most senior defender we will have
