Vincent Kompany - 2016/17 performances

We're not going to get a decent fee for him so we may as well give him a Wilshere type loan to try and get his career back on track and who knows maybe he will come back like Kompany of old.

No way should he be taking up a squad place next year, we can't rely on him. Imagine if Otamendi or Stones or both had suffered serious injuries this season, he must be replaced.

Mostly not fit for purpose though sadly.

Agreed, but you have to admit, he's prevented a lot more goals than Kompany has this season. I don't know what's to be done about Vincent. Sure the club needs to do the right thing and for goodness sake we have. But can this go on forever?

Pep on Kompany: "He's fit. His injury in the training session was not serious like before. Hopefully he can be fit for the last 2/3 months."

To say we should use a squad place up on a player who is unlikely to feature due to chronic injuries is fuckwittery of the highest level. He can still knock about the dressing room and gee the boys up without taking up a squad place.

He'd lose a lot of respect from his peers if he's 'knocking about the dressing room' but ineligible to play.

Probably cost us a lot more too ;o)

None of us know what discussions have taken place with Vinnie, which is why I'm happy to let the club decide what is best, and not shout out loud for them to get rid of him.

He could yet play a crucial role this season, even if its a short one.

As for the future, I'd like to keep him around the club beyond playing, same for Pablo Z, and even possibly Yaya (though I doubt he'd be interested), and in the future David Silva, but his game time for us is far from up, so I'm not worrying about him yet. They all have invaluable experience/ability to pass on to our young upcoming stars, each one of them has something different to offer the younger generation in terms of improving them. Its only my opinion, and worth nothing, but in the future I'd really like to see us adopt the old Liverpool way of promoting from within, with certain values behind everything the club does.

I don't want the likes of the longevity of a coach like ferguson/wenger, I'd much prefer we give younger coaches the chance to develop, and renew every few years, but renew from people who fully understand the club.

I'd be very surprised if that wasn't the club's goal too.

Nobody seems to be able or willing to answer the question of who we would be selling him to or who would even want him. That's pretty important when it comes to offloading a player.

There would be plenty of clubs willing to take him on a loan deal. The issue is not one of money for us but one of CL Foreign spots. We obviously would pay the majority of his wages.

Good post. I will quibble with Yaya. He is not the type of personality we want anywhere near our kids and doesn't represent the clubs values at all.

The last couple of years have been draining and as much as I desperately want to see him back playing regularly at the heart of our defence, I just can't get excited any more when I hear that he's fit. Thankfully, I reckon Vinnie himself is a thousand times more positive than me.

That's a bit harsh. His agent is a knob but increasingly a silent and marginalised one. The squad seem to look up to Yaya though and you can tell there is a lot of affection for him. He also has struck up excellent relationship with Raheem and Leroy. Uncle Yaya no less!

Vinny's playing role may be a reduced one but if he is happy at the club ( there are no signs of that being the case) then he should be kept on.
