The team went back to Manchester after the final and traveled by train to London on matchday yesterday. I was a bit suprised he played tonight as i thought maybe 3 matches in a week were too much for him. I agree with you its a risk vs Chelsea but Pep has been brilliant at managing his game time and he and his staff will know best.

Pep has been brilliant in this regard to be fair yes, and we as fans don’t know what’s best, but after all the time and work it’s taken from everyone involved to help Vinnie back up to this level, I’d hate to see him over worked and have a setback right now. The man is immense, and he has a lot to more to give, and deserves to play as much as his body is able no doubt. To say I’m delighted to see him back at this level is an understatement.

Completely agree. Thought both Vinnies performances vs Arsenal this week has been close to perfect. Lets hope he stays fit till the end of the season. Would love for him to play in the CL final and lift the trophy.

Take the risk vs Chelsea- Stones and Laporte can play with Danilo and Zinchenko against Basel.

Defensively sound, but agree that he struggled on the ball. Lost count of the number of times he cantered into a wide open space and then turned and either passed back to Bravo or sideways to Ota. There was a period in the second half when those 3 kept the ball between them for several minutes to the obvious frustration of the forward players who kept coming deeper and deeper to try and receive the ball. It was boring and non-progressive, which De Bruyne alluded to in his post match interview. I know the game was already won and we didn't have to do anything to progress the game, but it highlighted Vinny's lack of confidence (or ability?) to either carry the ball purposefully forward or zip those forward passes into feet a la Stones and Ota. Maybe he just needs games, but I suspect that, barring injuries, it will be bench or maybe the FA cup only for Vinny here on in.

I know. It was just boring to watch and it was frustrating as I wanted to see us batter them in perfect retaliation for the assault on Leroy. It wasn't just in the second half with Vinny though. There were a number of times in the first 45 where he checked and went back or sideways when he didn't need to, and he generally tended to slow things down. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's fit and hope he stays that way, but doubt he'll ever be 1st choice cb in prem or CL matches.

Obviously I don't know what I am talking about. Sorry Vinny. I promise not to talk out of my arse again.

Another stellar performance from the captain and I guess the trick is now staying fit.

The thing that impressed me the most about Vinny from last nights game was his passing. There were a couple balls that went astray but what pleased me the most was that he was trying to play the balls between the lines and starting off attacks, a couple of the balls he played i would never have expected from him even 6 months ago. Now, if he can just stay fit..

We definitely have a much better chance of making the final if he’s in the team, we just look even more assured with our captain in the starting 11. We’ll need him and the qualities he brings to the team and the added confidence and composure those around him play with when he’s there.

His passing has been excellent since he came back, a few on here were criticism his passing at time this season when he was just coming back from injury. Last night he played a delightful cross field ball right onto Sane’s chest. He’s always had this in his locker, just needed time to get up to speed both in terms of fitness and what’s expected from him in this system. I think he’s only going to improve in this aspect too as he grows into the team again with more game time. I can’t stress enough how happy I am that he’s achieved this level to return to our starting 11, and at a time when Stones has been consistently shaken since his own return from injury! Viva la Vinnie

It says a great deal that pep is virtually affording Kompany the final decision on if he starts.... with the World Cup coming up, potential of lifting at least 1 trophy, possibly 2, I hope he isn't a fool to himself and manages his body correctly.... he deserves to lift those trophies but not at the expense of his World Cup dream!
