What does everybody think in regards to giving him an extension??

I love Vinny and he has brought glorious times to the club but I think giving him an extension would be for more for emotional than football reasons. Would offer him a coaching role at the club or let him go on a free with his testimonial and tell him once he retires he has a role at the club waiting for him.

Would rather see Eric Garcia as 4th choice next season. We’ve made the mistake of not letting go of the past too much frequently. The old needs to make way for the new.
Got to agree with this. This is the perfect chance to get a youth player in the mix. The only problem is can we count on garcia to play 30 games and could we throw him in against lukaka and fellaini if need be, I'm not so sure.

Another who could be soon given a "lifetime season ticket",as hard as it will be to absorb for a vast majority of us,but when you mention Garcia, there will be plenty thinking the same thing, but this will be more difficult than seeing Yaya or Zabba leaving in my book

But,although this is for another thread, youth, perfect chance and Guardiola don't always go together,as Foden and Diaz would acknowledge at earlier times this season

Kompany has 12 appearances so far and not all of them starts so I don’t think it would be such an issue for Eric to step in. I mean he played really well against some dangerous Leicester attackers.

The added benefit is the youngster would take each and every appearance with both hands and will be looking to impress while the older player will be rusty as Vinny has been in the majority of his games this season.

Hard to argue against that but would you give Kompany an extension? I’m not so sure.

If he wants one.

If he is winding down as a top player, that it is actually perfect for the young players, as they can replace him here & there at times when it suits, but he is still there as insurance.

If Garcia was 21 & chomping for a first team role, then it might not be a good idea.

That’s also true. Just not sure how he would handle being on the bench and a youngster starting for example if fit. Also he’s apparently on £120k a week, I imagine the club would offer him much less in the extension to reflect his current role in the team. Would he accept? Possibly.

I think it all depends on where Kompany sees his career going right now. He's always been ultra competitive and has fought back from injuries so many times - at 32 years old, he isn't really nearing the usual retirement age for a CB, but obviously he's been plagued with a terrible fitness record for years now, so his is not an average situation.

I'd be inclined to say he should stay on a player/coach type contract, the sort of situation that Carrick was in last season at United. I can't see the club just dropping Garcia in at 4th choice at this point, as much as I would like to see it happen. Having Vinnie stick around for another season or so as an experienced head to call on when required whilst someone like Garcia or Sandler develops could be a good arrangement.

That being said, Kompany being the sort of bloke he is, will probably not see his playing career finished and I could see him moving elsewhere for a season or two if he isn't offered an extension. Perhaps a return to somewhere like Anderlecht, who I'm sure would take a punt on him, however, his wife is a manc and his family will be settled here, so I'm not sure whether he will want to uproot them at this stage in his career.

If the desire to play every week (when fit), is his main motivation, then he'll go irrespective.

If he accepts his career is winding down, & wants to remain involved at City then he'll stay if offered a deal.

I don't know if he has future managerial ambitions, or whether his ambitions are outside football. I could imagine Kompany doing an Imran Khan & becoming a big politician but equally, he might be happy coaching our defenders for a while.
