I will hold my hands up and admit that I thought he was done. I thought Pep was undoubtedly going to build the defence around Stones and Laporte and Kompany would be peripheral at best. Whilst I still think long term that is true (development of those two players pending, obviously), I could not have been more wrong at Kompany's continued value to this team. A true captain in every sense of the word, and someone we need to keep at the club at all costs. Like anyone I wish he could have had less injuries; I think he'd have currently been considered the best central defender of the Premier League era if so. However in lieu of that, he's still our captain, and whatever he wants to stay we should give him. Including backroom roll.
