Vinnie plays on despite stroke risk

paradox time

lots on here have bemoaned the lack of commitment from ( some) MCFC players last season so if the manager doesn't take vinnie off and he wants to play sounds like a very adult decision to me

No it's an idiotic decision. And not adult at all. The management should have taken the decision out of his hands.

Where does it state that he was at risk of a stroke? The doctors only confirmed the cracked eye socket and concussion at the hospital after the game, so how can they have known to withdraw him?

What the fuck !!!!!!!!!! I expect Belgium would have paid us his £50 million value in compensation had he give himself a Brain injury playing on like a fuckwit.

Absolutely moronic decision. There's playing on through the pain barrier of a gashed head and there's being an absolute moron. This case, if true, falls under the latter.

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany plays through broken nose, concussion and cracked eye socket in World Cup qualifier

With Belgium up 1-0 in the 34th minute, Kompany smashed face-first into Stojkovic while attempting to head home a corner kick. The hulking 6-3 defender took the worst part of the impact and was left a writhing, bloody mess as team doctors went to his aide to treat his injuries.

Vincent Kompany (r.) plays through severe injuries in Belgium's World Cup qualifier vs. Serbia.

Who says soccer players are soft?

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany went above and beyond the call of duty for his national team during Friday's World Cup qualifier against Serbia, staying in the game despite suffering a broken nose, a mild concussion and cracked eye socket after a brutal collision with goalie Vladimir Stojkovic.

Vincent Kompany writhes in pain after crashing face-first into Serbian 'keeper Vladimir Stojkovic.

What would have sent most players straight to the ER couldn't keep Kompany out for long, however, and the Manchester City star returned to the field to play out the remaining 60-plus minutes.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Vincent Kompany stays in the game.

"All my players pushed themselves to the limit to achieve this win," said Wilmots, according to The Score of Ireland. "Their performance was reflected by Vincent, who showed extraordinary courage".

After the game, Kompany finally went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a mild concussion, a broken nose and a fractured eye socket.

Vincent Kompany shares a picture of his injuries on Twitter.

That same night he shared a picture on Twitter of the damage done to his face. But judging by the accompanying caption, he has no regrets.

"What wouldn't you do for your country hey? "

VK played on for Belgium v Serbia having suffered a broken nose, fractured eye socket and concussion. Doctors advice was to withdraw as he was risking a stroke
What a man!

can you all stop being the worst people ever for a moment

I have seen the video replays and as far as I can see Vinnie was not concussed - he did not appear to lose consciousness at any point. Yes it was a hefty blow but that does not mean he was concussed.
That said I agree that, in these situations, it is the responsibility of the medical team to determine if the player can carry on. I suspect the decision was taken that the broken nose cold be sorted afterwards in any event. As he was not concussed and must have been fit to continue I have no problem. I think we have to assume that the medical team attached to the Belgium national team no there stuff and would act responsibly and would not risk serious medical repercussions. The reference to stroke risk smacks of the press not letting the truth get in the way of a dramatic headline.
Many top flight rugby players will take a number of hefty blows and contacts of that sort in games and carry on. However, where a player clearly loses consciousness and is concussed they will always be withdrawn - e.g. Beau Robinson for Queensland Reds against the British and Irish Lions last Saturday.
The episode proves what we all knew anyway - which is that Vinnie is something of a warrior.

Risks are always there, especially with noggin injuries, he braved it for his own benefit/lack of benefit.
Hope he puts feet up for a while.

The medical team in the articles stated he was concussed?
You do not have to knocked out to suffer from concussion.
