Virgin media

Just called to "cancel" mine as we're moving next month. Paying 42.99 for 50meg internet and the M TV package. Offered us all the channels and BT sport (XL package) with 200 meg internet for 35 quid. Happy with that.

They can offer you all the megs they want. If they can't deliver it at peak times then it's just a load of hogwash.

Definitely won't ever need that speed... never had any problems on the 50meg with any streaming or anything.

Our service has been really reliable in our area for the past couple of years; the TV service is clunky compared to sky, but it is a lot cheaper and the superior internet makes up for it for me.

mine usually hits about 100/110 at peak time, have clocked it at 150 first thing in the morning

I'm on the 100mb (150mb in June) Internet + Landline. (No TV)
Droylsden area.
I can honestly say I never had a problem or slow down. I get 106mb+ on speed tests day and night.
I haggle each year, and I've just got a price of £29.99 for 100mb BB + Landline. (£12 discount)
They class it as a £9 loyalty discount for 18 months plus a further £3 for 6 months. They told me to phone back every 6 months or I lose £3 of that discount.
Pretty happy...

Been with Virgin for years now - always seems fine, give or take the odd time the area goes down (worse case 3 days).
The phone rental and XXL TV package (we don't have sport, aside from the BT stuff) is pricy though, so going through a review at the moment.
Bearing in mind we only get tend to use the main 'terrestrial' channels (for the usual family viewing suspects) then Netflix (and I have Kodi fired up in different locations)...and the landline is used but once a day for my other half to phone her mum, there's a bit of scope to plane down them costs I think.

Attached a 24TB qnap nas box at home had it filling at full speed all night 3 threads from a 10Gbps box and i was maxed solid for 8 hours last night, 24000KB/s - 24MB/s down, consistently.
Never had any speed issues with virgin in either my wigan flat or leeds home, rock solid it has been for me.

In general if you can get virgin you will get great speeds, the network is very good tbh, even compared to most other countries.

As an ftp siteop i get to see people speeds out and how stable the line is. I would say virgin is hands down the best then bt, then sky big 3 wise.
The best ones have been small isp's in a who cover small geographical areas.

One guy is in a virgin test area and currently has 500Mbps download, fucker. That is 5 x 100Mbps servers, for a uk domestic line that is very impressive.

As a dedicated file sharer there is no comparison, you use virgin broadband, others are not even close tbh.

A good tip for you guys is call them and ask the fup policy is removed if you don't hammer the line. They will remove the peak time data limits placed on you.
Just say you sometimes help with non profit stuff that requires constant high bw due to cloud distrubuted computing, but this is only once every now and then.
I have had mine removed and hammered my downlink for a week now and no peak time data limits/speed limits :-)
