The main issue for me in the USA game was Rice being unable or unwilling to take the ball under any kind of pressure off Stones or Maguire, it slowed the build up play down. I was surprised how poor he was, Phillips is far more able to either play in the half turn or lay the ball off first time. So Phillips in for Mount, Bellingham further forward, walker in for Shaw, swap trippier over and Grealish and Foden either side of Kane.
Won’t happen………

Also to further contradict his bullshit about playing players where they play for their club. At the time Foden was having an outstanding spell on the left for City and keeping Sterling out. Boregate shifted him to the right at the start of the tournament.

Makes interesting reading.

Probably not a great game for England to be playing at this stage. Not only do Wales need to win at all costs for even a very unlikely chance to qualify, they'd probably regard beating England as almost as good as winning the entire competition.

Whilst Southgate will have to keep heads cool, he'll also have to remind himself to inspire his team into some kind of sign of life, which should be an interesting challenge for him. I just hope he doesn't go with his tried and tested bore boys - if Kane isn't fit, drop him, if Bellingham is off form, drop him (I mean why else did you bring the other players?) and if Mason Mount tries to get on the England team coach, keep the doors locked and drive, drive, drive!

There is no doubting Southgate has helped change the atmosphere within the England camp for the better, although you could argue with the 'golden generation' now long gone, this new generation of players and their relationships with each other outside of football have changed it anyway.

He's just a very poor manager.

Yeah that’s what I was saying. I would not be opposed to him being involved in the England set up, if they could create some role for him, “director of football” or something like that but with a more hands on approach and with the media etc, but just leave the actual coaching and tactics to others who are more qualified. Probably wouldn’t work anyway though because the media want to speak to the guy making the decisions on the team.

Mr West Ham won’t be getting dropped.

I don’t even get why he seems to be so highly rated by some and this price tag. I don’t think watch West Ham every week, so maybe I’m way off the mark but every time I’ve seen him play, he doesn’t seem to have anything above the ordinary in his ability, just a decent and spirited midfielder.

Then again, I actually thought he was carrying Phillips in the last 2 or 3 games at the euros last year. Phillips went completely missing in the final. Yet we paid good money for him, so what do I know…
