Wayne rooney statement

If we sign him I would play him in the middle of midfield with YaYa and De Jong.

Rooney has damaged his reputation with rag fans even if he does change his mind. Whatever happens now, the only way he will stay with United is if they pay him the money and go out and spend a load of cash in January. This will damage them even more.

either way its a win win.
As thing stand, I can't see many clubs bidding for him in Janaury because

a) His transfer value will fall rapidly, and there's a big incentive to wait
b) Can't play in Europe
c) How can he prove his fitness / form? He's had one ankle injury after another since March. And this will put off any buyers

I think Chelsea are the most likely buyers. With Spurs and Liverpool also possibilities. I am not sure City would go for it whilst doubts remain over his fitness. And if we buy Rooney, what happens to Tevez, Balotelli, Silva, AJ? One would go?

Maybe his drop in form is mental rather than physical ?? He realised his time was up with the rags and all of a sudden his form drops..mmmmmmmmmmm

Collymore: "I will take anyones money as to where Wayne Rooney will be playing his football next. Anyones."

He does seem beyond sure that Rooney will be a City player doesn't he.
They share/did share the same agent. If he is getting info, it's coming from the one of the only men who would know.

He used to seem beyond sure that he himself was a top-class player so I wouldn't place too much reliance on his opinion.

Cookie will be all over this, this is the big name Sheik Mansour has craved since the begining and I think even if he doesnt play again until jan we will bid for him and go all out to get him
If he doesn't play between now and January then no team will bid for him. It's hard to see how Utd could afford to leave him out for so long, because his transfer value will crash, and the player will be unhappy too. Therefore I expect some accommodation, and public face-saving operation

He's scored 1 pen in the League this season, and his ankle repeatedly breaks down so if he doesn't play between now and Janaury how could you justify a big money bid? if he doesn't play until January, I suspect someone might chance their arm with a low bid, but the big clubs will keep out until the Summer, or try and make contact with the player / agent and see how the landlies with regards to a Summer move.

Simply because this is soo much more than a purchase to improve the squad, this would be a huge statement and he would probably make us his fee back in shirt sales, there are only 2 other players that would make a bigger statement Messi and Ronaldo. I think this is the best opportunity we will get.

This just keeps getting better and better :D

I'm not really bothered where he goes as long as it isn't Chelsea, old 'Arry wouldn't have a chance of signing him for Spuds because of the wage he'd want.

I'd have him here because of his ability and I think a Tevez/Rooney link-up could be something special. Not sure if I'd prefer to see him go to Spain or Italy but I'm 99% sure those 4 clubs in Europe will wait to see him go on a free or just pay £10m in summer.

United would have to take whatever is offered in summer because he could talk direct to the clubs 6 months later and walk on a free 6 months after that. I bet the phone-lines are red-hot between the 6 top european clubs that could afford his wages all agreeing on what bid to put to the scum - bet it's a maximum of £15m unless we want to go in stupidly high to guarantee getting him i.e. £25-£30m :)))))))

Imagine Rooney only fetching £10 - £15m, a year ago they could have got £40m easy for him I reckon.

He broke the story days before it hit the press. Stan is ITK on this matter due to his relationship with Stretford.

He said something similar yesterday. So did Mike Ingham on 5 Live.

Then Allan Green came on and said City were still a long way behind the rags, which frankly amazed me. In what way? On the pitch? (We are ahead of them in the league table - or has the league table suddenly started lying?) Off the pitch? Done't make me laugh. We have more financial clout than them, we have man-for-man a stronger squad than them, and we have momentum with us - unlike them.

Agree entirely the balance of power tilted our way two years ago - but sometimes it takes time for the new balance to be clearly felt. Today, the rags are feeling it, and their pain is there for all to see.

You will see the difference between the two clubs when Utd play at home in the Champions League tonight and get a full house whilst we play in the Europa League in front of a hafl empty stadium.

If we were to qualify for the Champions League - possibly at their expense then the gap will be small.........but it takes years and years to build up a support.

Quite apart from the fact that the stadium will be half-full of poles, I don't understand that at all.

Of course it takes years to build up a support, but if matchday attendance is the only measure of success, we are already behind Newcastle. As are Chelsea, Spurs and Villa.

Us in the Europa League and them in the CL is a product and reflection of what each achieved last season. Since then, we have moved forward and them backwards at (in each case) a high rate of knots.

You think if they were playing Lech Poznan in the Europa league and we were playing in the Champions league that we would still be half empty and they would still be full? You think that the ticketing policies of the two clubs has no impact on midweek attendances? Or that their ticket salesmen are trying to flog empty corporate packages for the hell of it?

Full or empty stadia are a product not only of a team's form and position but also a reflection of the opposition and the competition you are playing in. United v Birmingham in the league will sell out - United v Birmingham in the Carling Cup will not. United v anonymous european team in the CL will sell out, but you watch them on Thursday nights on Channel 5 in the new year and count the empty seats then.
