We are NOT Man City..

If I'm talking to other City fans (or United fans) I refer to us as City. If I'm talking to fans of other clubs I often refer to us as Man City. Have done all my life. First time I've ever heard that it disqualifies me as a supporter. In any case the issue doesn't amount to very much, in my opinion.

never really use either just say city, people tend to know I mean Manchester City when I do.
Good point, I normally say City when in Manchester. However, I served 25 years in the Army, so got used to saying Man City when asked who I supported. I never, ever said Manchester City. Then again, I met shit loads of Rags, and never heard any of them say Manchester United, I think it's just a media thing.

You're not getting it..I'm not talking about what fans call us..even our own fans

I'm talking about how the CLUB portrays itself

It's Manchester City Football Club

Man City just seems unprofessional coming out of the club

Ah, why didn't you say so? I agree .

From the Muen

The club’s view

Quite simply, the club have changed because their data tells them 'Man City' is the term most associated with them. Their global and domestic audience is four times more likely to search that phrase online than any other, meaning, in the club’s eyes, they are 'Man City' and not any of the alternatives (MCFC, Manchester City or City). This is the language most commonly used to describe the club in an online setting.

As City officials look to continue the club’s growth and develop the wider City Football Group, their online presence is key. They need to engage as many fans as possible and reach out on as many platforms as they can. It’s a modern view – but one they can’t hide from.

The fans’ View
As ever, the fans’ view is more emotional. While the club make decisions based on hard facts and data, a fan has a much more nuanced take. To the purist, the shortening of 'Manchester' jars and perhaps reminds them of what fans of rival clubs would call them, rather than a term used by Blues who travel across England and Europe supporting their team.

The dropping of 'Manchester' is seen as a rejection of the club’s Mancunian heritage – and is a decision at odds with the long consultation process the club embarked on with fans to determine the makeup of the new club crest, which was welcomed by pretty much every City supporter.

The club play in Manchester and not so long ago concentrated solely on local supporters. Those who were there during the darker days have constantly felt like they have been losing grip of their club as it has become more successful and this latest development, in their eyes, is another step in City’s globalisation process.

Bit embarrassing this thread tbh, it's a web address - what's the problem? Do you think Google should rethink goo.gl as it's missing a bit? Personally I prefer the old mcfc.co.uk but I'd much rather see some decent players and results than worry about what the website is called. Mind my first visit made me think they'd been hacked...

Try typing the address into a mobiles browser a few times then think about which you prefer!

The word 'Manchester' doesn't lend itself well to the Manchester accent, Man City is easier to say than Manchester City. Also, when I was a kid, the updates coming through on Grandstand or World of Sport, called us Man City. We know who we are. They know who we are. There isn't an issue.

I agree (and i also like the new kit!!)

Almost every body I know calls us city. Quite often the TV/ media call us City, plus we all know there's only one City. Manchester City FC, MCFC, Man City or just City, everyone of those names love and use with pride. However, I think the club should be formal.

So this is a step too far....what a load of old tosh.
There are some over sensitive people out there.
Always called us Man City or City or Blues.
All a matter of choice..

You moaning knob jockeys, we are Man City, MCFC, Manchester City the fucking lot.

Get a life !

Mancs shorten everything ! It's the way we speak !

So if someone asks "who do you support?" You say "Manchester City" fuck off ! Do you fuck !

You say Man City

I say Just City or from time to time gods own team, never use man city if honest, but not overly bothered if others do.

Think the original point is this is part of the clubs global marketing plan and dropping the full Manchester bit to a world wide audience has grated on some.

I mean how fucking annoying is it when people around the world refer to the rags as just Manchester, seems like we are letting them own that title, we know we are Manchester but to a new global audience we will be know as mancity while they are refered to as Manchester, it does make a difference in that aspect.

Mcfc man city manchester city City or the blues etc none of them bother me, we all know who we are.

They could have registered a whole load of hyperlinks that point to the one website ie whatever you type took you to the same page

And no offence but with predictive searching who types out the full website

DOT COM is for yanks

And Ive never seen an arguement that wins over its Manchester City, because were from Manchester, the only football team to come from Manchester

Nobody I know has ever said I support 'Man City'

We are City..there's only one City so why would they add 'Man' at the beginning!

Again..as I have explained a couple of times on this thread

Doesn't matter what fans call us

I'm talking about how the club refers to us..and I think using Man City doesn't come across as very professional
