We need an A-list signing ?

Don't agree with this thread at all. In order for a football team to be successful, the team is more important than the individual players. Bayern and especially Barcelona are successful because they have a distinct philosophy which they implement throughout their youth teams. When they do happen to look elsewhere in the transfer market when the youth academy fails to strengthen a certain position, the players they look for match the team dynamics.

For example, Mario Mandzukic was hardly a big name, but he did so well at Bayern because they knew he would play to their strengths and style. In much the same way, it would make more sense for us to sign Negredo who will fit in well with our spanish inspired side, particularly with his Seville team mate J Navas. His stats show that he was only topped in scoring in La Liga by Messi, Cristiano and Falcao. Going by your theory of an A-list player, say we signed Cavani. It would be more than likely that his ability to adapt to the team will be hampered by the way he plays. He works hard, yes, but that does not mean that he will be able to combine well with Manchester City players or fit in with our supposed fluid playing style. La Liga is more like the EPL than the Serie A is.

Therefore in order for us to keep moving forward we need to stop looking at the price tag of a player, but more at how the player will complement the team's tactical approach. At the end of the day a team > individual A-list players...

I'd love this to happen but it's massive risk and very unlikely. Love to be proven wrong.

Still reckon we play Dzeko every week as key foal point in all comps and he could bag 50 but not sure he can work that well with Aguero.

Not changing our style of play to suit dzeko no chance. Still think he's finished at city personally, if he's not prepared to sign a contract get rid this summer in my opinion. Can't leave it with 1 year left anymore.

Its a poor example. Ribery and Robben, both big buys and the main attacking threat of Bayern, Martinez and now Goetze. Bayern have always bought big because the best teams look towards the best players. We are standing still at the moment, the new two have a got a lot to live up to and they aren't doing it so far, two over the odds transfers. I hope Negredo is just paper talk, because if it isn't it would be an indication these two are lining their own pockets and will be of to Barcelona if LP wins the election.

There are very few players who are A list players before going to an A list club. But plenty of examples of players going to an A list club and becoming A list players by performing well for that club.

Mandzukic wasn't a player that teams across Europe were lining up for, hence the 12 million price tag. But he fit Bayern's system well and was a big success for them.
Edit: How are we standing still when we have already addressed weaknesses in the squad with the signing of Fernandinho and Navas?
