We Won !!! No Thanks To Hughes

i can't see what Hughes did wrong if I'm honest.

He picked the players he had available to him.. played them in their correct positions and made the correct substitutions.

He was let down by poor performances from City players, namely Richards, SWP and Ireland who were all terrible..

He has a replacement left back who is like Manuel from faulty towers
Spot on!

We should have been going after an away goal. It would have taken the wind out of their sails and it would have quietened their support. They wouldn't have been able to keep us out if we had at least gone for something on the break.

Pam.. we didn't have enough about us to break them down.. the pitch was shite, they were kicking shite out of us. Our wingers weren't in it..

We could have done fuck all. They got two late, lucky goals and we dicked them on spotters. I'm happy

look, we pissed the first half and were well in control until the last 6 minutes. If it ended 0-0 we would have all been saying what a professional job we did on the night etc.

It wasn't the best MCFC display ever but sometimes even the best teams get a shock - and that's football. To blame it on Hughes is a bit harsh tonight; it was just one of those freakish things.

Not saying that Hughes is devoid of critiscism, far from it, and I would be more than happy to see him replaced for Mourinho (and only him) but I thought we started with the best 11 we could have tonight, apart from Bellamy. If anyone thinks any different then you have to put more years in.

We're in the last 8 of a MAJOR European tournament by the way. That makes me proud and excited to be a City fan.

We hit the bar to make it 3-0 and Ched missed a couple after, we were very unlucky to go to ET and pens, justice that we won.

we were in control until bridge went off. garrido didnt get going. evans lost his head second half.

they put us under pressure, because they are most certainly not a pub team .

they have got excellent results against many good european sides this season.

last ten minutes richards switched off a fraction too. that's all it takes, a few heads not quite screwed on, and the whole thing can fall apart. we survived because of the experience and coolness of a few senior pro's. cheifly, given. in an odd way there really are positives as well as negatives to come out of this.

I totally agree they are not a pub team. We were poor once again away from home, but credit where credit's due we got the result. After all a cup competition is about being in the hat for the next round. Which we are! End of!

Hell, what a match. Second time the luck appears in the end, horrible display yesterday from Man c, have to be happy about that win, because it was down to luck in the end. Again city are pretty lucky, just like against FCM, but could say they should have won more than 2-0 at home to close the match. Situations like this are unacceptable, and can't count on luck everytime to win something.

I can't believe that people stick by this cop out week after week, spouting that "Hughes picks the right teams, what can he do if the players let him down".

Despite it happening time and time again.

I typed this to someone spouting this last night and, of course, received no reply. That's because there isn't one that justfies the stance.

If you think that a good/successful manager just gathers together a good bunch of players and sends them out onto the pitch, then I don't know what to say.

Never mind tactics, never mind preparing them in training so you can be confident of good performances 9 or 8 times out of ten, never mind motivating them, never mind changing things if certain tactics aren't working, never mind adapting to the opposition's gameplan, never mind making effective substitutions, never mind all that.

Just pretend it's Championship Manager and pick 11 players and blame it on them when they are shit (AGAIN!)

If you honestly hold that view, I am lost for words.
