Welcome Donnarumma!

Coming into his peak, 10 years experience under his belt, won everything plus a number of individual awards, fucking quality at keeping the ball out of the net and excellent at saving penalties.

26m for him, is outrageous business by Viana.

With him and the very promising Trafford we are boxed off at goalkeeper for years. Trafford will learn a lot from him.

He for sure is a world class shot stopper.

But his pass completion percentage is due to PSG coping for his inability on the ball. PSG have world class CBs and left/right backs - and PSG play from the back with the keeper passing to someone actually able to pass. They've been carrying Donnarumma in this regard.

Now that we've signed Donnarumma on huge wages - he's very likely to start.

But unlike PSG we don't have the backfield to carry Donnarumma's average passing ability... at all.

It's going to be a disaster.
Why can’t City compensate? Pep improves players. Why can’t Pep train this ability into him?

We’ve signed the Euros winning, PSG treble winning, Italian national team Number 1 who is widely regarded as one of the very best goalkeepers of his generation- not to mention the first genuinely world class player we have signed since Haaland and you think it’s going to be a disaster.

I’ve heard it all now.

Fuck me. Can we at least wait till he flaps at one or hoofs it into his own net before slating him!
There's abundant evidence to identify Donnarumma's strengths and weaknesses.

And acting as an 11th man on field - passing the ball deftly even under pressure - that's what we need - and that's not at all in Donnarumma's wheel house.

Just because we played a certain way for 8 years doesn’t mean we’re going to play that way for the next 8 years.

Why oh why couldn't Pep train Joe Hart into this ability?

Why?

Because most of it is due to inborn ability - neither Hart nor Donnarumma are ever going to be gifted on the ball.

100% agree.

Trafford fits our system - very capable on the ball and an excellent shot stopper. He fits our system.

But now we've signed Donnarumma who is average on the ball, and is, on his day, the best or second best at stopping goals.
You obviously don't watch much live football. Trafford is a good young player but he is absolutely not good on the ball. I have seen him live in the last three matches. Donnarumma is one of the best keepers in the world. Pep is slowly changing City's style to be more direct. He started it last season, even playing Haaland and Marmoush close to each other up front in several matches. The new City are a work in progress. Donnarumma is also a huge character on the pitch who will give more confidence to our defence.
