I talked so many times about this in the transfer forum. No informed Real Madrid fan ever believed this. A club in their financial situation wouldn’t make a bid like that for a player in their final year of contract. It however suited both Real Madrid to look financially powerful and PSG to look strong rejecting it to let this story without being denied, even though it was just a soap opera created to sell papers in Madrid. To be fair to Real Madrid, while they never denied, they also never confirmed or talked about it

We can't do this Galacticos signing every year, we are not yet in Real Madrid level able to do financial muscle on year basis. The fact that governing body is favouring them in term of financial leeway is major advantage, the advantage we currently lack because we are not those istree club thus didn't have the same previlege.
