The difference our attacking play is so much different when Kolarov plays. 9/10 times clichy will not cross the ball and will pass back and even if he does cross they are usually not great whereas Kolarov can cross a ball from anywhere at any time with little space basically where he wants to. Adds alot to the play as we look alot more dangerous down that side when he plays.

Agree 100%, we are at our best when Kolarov and Zabaleta are both in the side accompanying those who can control the game in the middle. We always struggle when neither of them are in the side making those runs in behind, and Blackburn was no exception. Even if one of them is in the side it helps as we just focus our attacks down that side. Zabaleta is better than Kolarov because he times his runs perfectly to keep him solid at the back which Kolarov can lack at times, but going forward they are both fantastic.

It's annoying that we are so reliant on good fullbacks within our system and struggle when they are rested, but there is a huge positive, fullbacks aren't the most expensive players in the world and we know our system works - purchasing better backup's or even a better LB all around won't be overly difficult. Many would mock United for spending £15m on Baines, but he is bloody perfect for our system, and I'd be happy to bring somebody like that in.
Also agree,Clichy tends to break up a flowing attack as much as Garcia nowadays.Don't agree with going for Baines though.

I'd personally go for Luke Shaw, just because of his age and he gets up and down all day.

We NEED Luke Shaw in my opinion. Not only is he the perfect fit for our system, he's also home grown and we are potentially going to lose Lescott, maybe Richards, Barry will leave permanently etc. We need more to meet the quota.

Thought we saw the benefits of genuine competition tonight. Clichy had arguably his best performance this season and, in his limited time on the pitch, Kolarov was shooting, squaring up to people, and setting up goals. Imagine if we had that same level of competition on the right!

I agree.

Although I would say that when Micah was fit and on form eg 2011-12 him and Zaba were really upped their game.
I would say the performances of Micah back then have gone someway to Zaba really progressing the way he has.
Get Micah fit and firing again and it's back on over at right back!

Fully agree with this Trev; And now is the time to move for him as he will soon become unattainable, or at too high of a cost if one of the other major clubs get their hands on him. He's the future England left back for years and years to come.

Ross Barkley's situation is very similar btw. Either we get him now or we won't... ever.

Kolarov is up there with Nasri as most improved player this season under Pellers.

For me there is no doubt he's first choice LB nowadays. He offers so much more than Clichy going forward.

I'd make a move for Coentrao tho'. If we were looking to replace Clichy.

Question of balance for me, Zaba and kolarov are a good pair, as are clichy and micah because of their respective defending and attacking instincts, so if we were looking to replace one of our full backs, we have to get one who can do the same job e.g. replace micah with an attacking full back or clichy with a defensive one, nice to see aleks piling up the assists!

I agree. Kolarov is great this season.
