well done hughes and well done city

I thought City clung tenaciously to keeping a clean sheet There have been many worse analytical situations fans have pondered on with City, regarding League position and performance. I can only vouch for myself but I don’t feel that inevitability of defeat I have felt over the years this time round. More like establishing a position or staking a claim kind of feeling. I notice one of the “The big Four” had a by far worse weekend than ourselves, with a much inferior result.Liverpool losing at Fulham 3.1. But I’m delighted with another big positive, we didn’t lose, and no premier team is a pushover at their own ground, no matter what the expectation.Definetly onwards and upwards for me.

This post by the OP only makes sense if it was talking about typical old City, no money, a half decent team, a poor squad. Unfortunately we are not,we have one of the best teams in the Premiership and the best squad in the Premiership.

We have therefore underachieved, remember we have only played weak opposition recently, and still struggled to keep a clean sheet, or to win.

It also only makes sense if we ignore the underperformance by the team in the last two games and that key players are underperforming (just about all bar Given).

For typical old City this would be good, but we are not typical old City, we are 'Winning Mentality' City, a new breed who have spent a Kings Ransom on players and yet we are a million miles away from the ability and performance of Man U and Chelsea.

So yes DeNiro, well done City and Hughes we are marginally better than 'Typical Old' City but still light years behind Man U and Chelsea and penny pinching Arsenal who pay buttons for their players. Hardly an achievement to be proud of after having spent several hundred million on players.

So perhaps you could retitle this thread;
Well Done 'Typical Old City' and Typical Old Underachieving Overspending Manager somehow despite you we are 4th.

correct, we were below par yet still brought a point home as we sit 4th with a game in hand, we wont always play so poorly, we'll thump someone soon, well when we can put our best team out we will.
dont forget missing ade, robbie tolo and not forgetting young nedham.

Yes I do appear a Hughes outer, but in fact I want Hughes to succeed DeNiro. But it seems like our players he needs a kick up the backside to remind him, ok, is no longer good enough. The sstandard of the last two league performances have not been good enough, appalling, Mark needs to sort it out and that may mean looking ruthlessly at his coaches and even himself and getting the right back up staff if needed.

I will however complain and criticise when I see such below par performances; even if I am wrong. 4th is good but we should have 4 or 5 points more easily by now which we will desperately need in the second half of the season to get CL. I will be gutted if Aston Villa or Spuds get a CL place and we lose out, in a season of real opportunity, this would be massive underperformance.

I want Mark Hughes to stay, but stay and succeed.

Look at Chelsea and Man U goal difference compared to ours, that shows the real gulf between us and them. Oh by the way no team ever has its best team out, only occassionally, true of Man U and Chelsea and Arsenal and Liverpool this season. We have the best squad and need to perform regardless of who is playing. Stop making silly excuses DeNiro.

imo it is a little bit of "happy clapping" to be saying well done Hughes and well done City.

of course lying 4th is good news but considering we had 15 points from first 6 games then to have only picked up 4 draws from last 4 games is rather disappointing.

if we had played decent football yesterday to come away with a point then all well and good however we were dreadful and never looked like creating chances which all in all is not "well done".

i am more concerned with the pattern of our play and the fact that 4-4-2 with Barry and De Jong in the middle is still not working as once again there was no-one carrying the ball through the middle to link up with the forwards - it is harsh to say Stevie didn;t have an impact on the game when he came on as he should have been on from the start to influence the game.

what i would like to see is an ability to change formation when a game isn't going to plan - we should have made changes to the team/formation at the break yet we come out after half time and continue to play the same way.

not too disheartened at result and position but i don't want us to lose any more ground with the top 3 when we have some tough fixtures coming up after Burnley.
