The original decision was to build near Manchester Then the FA decided to spend a fortune and buy the bankrupt Wembley Stadium company, spend more demolishing the old one, then even more on the new one hence why we have to have all the matches there to help pay for their incompetenceWembley Stadium is awful.
Personally, I thought they should have built the new stadium near to East Midlands airport. Easy access to the M1, M42, M6 & obviously the airport. Much more central & accessible then wembley.
I don’t remember the name of the tory politician (Tessa Jowell?) who announced the decision to build the new stadium at wembley, but I was driving at the time & remember the radio interview & hearing the little chuckle & statement that “of course it was always going to be be built at Wembley” before commenting about how unfair it would be for London based fans to be expected to travel to Birmingham to watch games at the new stadium.
I nearly crashed my car I was so fucking angry.
Yes, I remember that it was Manchester that looked likely to be the new site before the gov fudged it back to London. Literally anywhere would have been better than wembley. The original decision was to build near Manchester Then the FA decided to spend a fortune and buy the bankrupt Wembley Stadium company, spend more demolishing the old one, then even more on the new one hence why we have to have all the matches there to help pay for their incompetence
There are lifts; we’ve used them in the past, as Mrs Vienna has trouble with stairs. The farce of the Pink car park is being discussed elsewhere so I will concentrate on the disgusting national stadium itself.
Where we entered the only way up was stairs. Approximately half way up an elderly lady was really struggling, so much so me and my mate stopped. There was no emergency exits that we saw, no stewards, nothing. If she wanted to go down she had to pass hundreds of Blues going the other way which wasnt an option. Fortunately she was ok after a good rest. The point being if she had a heart attack there was no one anywhere to help. If there were lifts for the less able, we didn't see them.
The beer was in cans. 10 guys on minimum wage opening and pouring and 3 more serving it. £8 a can I think. Bearing in mind I pay £5 for 4 at my off licence, what an obscene amount of profit.
Oh and I think because we won, we got a cup. I say I think because I couldn't see the presentation I had to watch it on a 12" TV screen high in another stand.
When they rebuilt the shithole they conned and cheated football fans. I hate the place and I'm not sure I'll go back.
I accept as I didn't need them, I didn't particularly look for them. However all I saw when I passed the stewards was a concrete wall and steps. My point is; the lady I am referring to set off is the stairs. She then felt unwell. There were no stewards on the stairs, there appeared to be no emergency exits. There was nothing other than her stopping and hoping for the best. For a national football stadium I find that disgraceful. An enclosed concrete stairwell is not where I would chose to die. There are lifts; we’ve used them in the past, as Mrs Vienna has trouble with stairs.
