Arse have conceded 10 goals and sit top yet with just 2 more, we are apparently shambolic at the back?

You know what, fuck it, i cant be arsed any more as im busy watching Pellegrini turn us into one of the worlds best club sides ;-)
We've taken just 4 points from 18 away, we're six points down on this stage last season when most of us were disappointed with how we were faring, I can't fathom anyone who thinks there's nothing of concern. If we don't improve our defensive record away from home, we won't win anything. Now I believe we're fully capable of improving our defensive record, yesterday fills me with a lot of confidence that we can improve away from home if we adopt a similar approach away from home, however, make no mistake, however good we are at home, we cannot win trophies with our away record as it is.

We have dropped points away from home mainly due to complete brain farts from individual players and Sunderland granted, a brain fart of a selection from the manager but the performances imo have deserved better results.

My issue is with a few on here who claim Pellegrini has no idea how to get his teams defending and its a fair enough come back to say we have conceded just 2 goals more than the current league leaders which suggests to me the shambolic tag is fucking ridiculous and a stick to hit the manager with from those less enamoured with him shall we say.

I can't fathom how most of us can't see the away points aren't very reflective of how we've played and that part of the problem has been patched up CH pairings. How many times will we concede like we did against Villa and to Chelsea. Komps will hopefully be back soon. DeMichelis is finding his feet.

Of course we can't win making mistakes at the back, but I think only the most pessimistic Blues can't see the picture is improving.

12 games in, 6 points behind the leaders and 4 behind 2nd... That'll do for me. We will win the league this year, we are getting better and better

We're 3 points up on last season's equivalent fixtures.

Latest odds

City . . . . 7/4
Arsenal . .7/2
Chelsea . 9/2
Liverpool 7/1
Rags . . . 10/1
Sod's Law, as applied to betting, means that when you bet on something you want to happen, then invariably something happens and you lose your money. Bearing this in mind, the Rags™ could have their title chances ruined by bettors lumping on them at these odds. But I've just had a look on oddschecker and I've come up with something better. They are quoted at a best price of 8/15 to finish IN THE TOP FOUR, and even though this is odds on, I've lost good money on cert horses at shorter odds than these! So wouldn't it be fun to get a top four bet at these odds with the aim of sabotaging their chances of qualifying for next years C/L campaign, with the chance of a small profit if they do let us down?

As much as I love the word brain fart, I don't agree with your assessment that there have been no general defensive issues brought about by our style of play. My view is that we're making the same errors we always have, it's just when we played deeper there was less space behind us to exploit and had more men back they were fatal on fewer occasions. Fine margins are what points are usually lost on for potential champions. I've done the stats on this. 0.2 goals conceded per game is the difference between title impossibility and regular title winners. Our defence is especially going to be the killer if it's as poor as it is away from home. It's two goals overall, although, as I say, fine margins, but if they are disproportionately away from home, as they are (we are in the bottom ten for goals conceded away from home). There's no bones about it, defence away from home MUST improve, or we will win fuck all.

-- Mon Nov 25, 2013 5:24 pm --

I don't believe in such nonsense. For that reason you won't see me having a fit if we lose at Old Trafford or the Emirates this season.

I agree with Skashion .-Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Let me ask you all - How many points do you THINK we should have picked up on our travels.?
Away at Cardiff ,Stoke , Villa ,WHU , Chelsea , and Sunderland.
IMO we should have got 1 point at Cardiff , 3 at Villa , 1 at Chelsea and possibly 1 at Sunderland. From memory we were poor at Stoke even so we got a draw 0-0.
So 4 points from 18 - when it could have been 10. On this basis we would be top on goal difference.
We must apply ourselves when we next go away - right from the k. o.

Whether you believe in it or not, it's simple arithmetic that if we do better in games this season compared to their equivalents last season, we will pick up more points.

If you compare those games, at home we lost to the rags and Norwich and drew with Everton. So we're 8 points better off.

On the road, the two really bad results have been at Villa and Cardiff. We won at Villa last season so that's 3 points dropped and if you equate Cardiff with Reading (both Championship winners) we dropped another 3. But we played an already relegated Reading whereas we played a fired-up Cardiff in their first home PL game. We led in both games so our results were definitely very disappointing.

But we only actually dropped one point at Chelsea, in a game where we played much better than the previous season, and did no worse at Sunderland and Stoke. We also won at West Ham, after a turgid draw last season. So there's really only 2 games where we've had significantly poorer results than last season and 4 where we've had significantly better results.

(By "significant" I mean a 2 or 3 point swing.)
