Were we this bad last time Kompany was out?

Why on earth did we let Kolo leave on a bloody free FFS? And then spend money on the new bloke whose name I can't attempt to spell. Bizarre.

Because Demichelis is better and cheaper.

New players are always assumed to be better until proven otherwise. The longer they don't play, the better they get. Guddetti became a veritable superstar last season by not playing at all and if Jovetic doesn't feature soon, he'll end up the same.

Demichelis is defensive cover, same as Maicon was. He won't be a regular starter and is definitely no long term prospect.
It's a valid question as to why Kolo wasn't kept on for the same purpose. I think it was probably his choice to leave to get first team football.

100k a week for cover or 18k a week.

All of the above. Kompany is our leader and we're a little lost without him. Think I do remember we lost about four matches in the 9 Kompany was out.

Numbers are estimates for all you stat mad people

I don't remember it being this disorganised last time.

Is it down to one player being injured, the system or something else?

system change - dont play two holding midfield players now - in the past, they made our centre backs look better than they were.
this is exactly whats happened & unless he sorts it out we are round the corner from a hammering .

Anyone who saw his performance last season in the WBA game before the Cup Final would have no argument with letting Kolo go.
He's clearly got weight and fitness issues and sadly is no longer the defender he once was but I wish him well at Liverpool.

The were 2 parts to that answer. 1) Demechelis is better. I suppose that is arguable, seeing as he hasn't played in the Prem yet. But he was deemed one of the best CDs in La Liga last season. So I suppose one could forgive me for the better remark. But how about reason # 2. He is cheaper! Now that is undeniable.

Hmm, Toure out injured.

We would have been mega fucked if we had two CB's out with groin injury!

In a league essentially dominated by Real/Barca and you can sort of throw in Atletico Madrid, Demichelis stood out and made team of the season and he's being brought in to cover. He will have to adjust to the prem but he's a winner a leader and would be easier to work with this system than Kolo. As I said in the other thread he will give our defenders a lot of help, esp Zaba on the pitch to help articulate exactly what MP is looking for.
