West Brom (h) post-match thread

It feels like I'm cycling players in my head who might improve things (Foden at the weekend) and the second they get on the pitch they look shite as well. But I've lost patience with a load of players tonight, Jesus and Sterling in particular, but De Bruyne isn't far off. Both work hard, but we don't need players who work hard we need players who make things happen. I'd like Torres to play, but he has a tendency to go missing. I'm out of ideas, which is why I'm posting on a forum, but it's not looking good right now. I'm checking the table and doing sums in my head out of habit, and I still think any team in the top half who put a string of wins together could still be in with a shout, but I just can't see where our string of wins is going to come from at this point. There can't be another team in the country scared of us at this point, and 18 months ago we had teams beat in the tunnel before a ball had even been kicked.

I see no signs that we are going to turn this season around. Confidence is zero, some players are not city level, Aguero is ageing, Kev looks fed up. Pep won’t react to anything.

this city team is by far poorer from when pep took over & that’s not good

That interview with Pep wasn't surprising but still so frustrating.

He isn't going to change. He mentioned us having 27 shots and that we should've won the game with what we created. Has he forgotten about 80 minutes of that game that was completely uninspiring? Games like this should happen to our team once or twice a season. It happens more often than not at the minute.

5 wins in 12. Not good enough and the buck stops with him.

Get out your anger here.

There's alot to be angry about, but unfortunately, not alot to analyze, it's just all kind of shit.

Pep out, player "x" out, etc. None of these will really fix anything.

A total squad refresh is not feasible, we've spent boat loads, Pep HAS to make it work with what he's got, and the players also need to get up to speed.

It is what it is. I'm lowering my expectations drastically, and my enjoyment has lessened lately anyways.

Something isn't right
Since peps new deal I expected better performances and the players to be reinvigorated.
Worryingly weve regressed to the extent where I'm wondering now whether some players wanted him out.
Also I'm glad I didn't spend money on a season ticket and I've cancelled sky and BT.
I'm fucking bored with us and I cant believe I'm saying that but its abysmal week in week out.

If we are playing two people in the pivot role then one of them has to be fast and mobile enough to move upfield to feed the forwards. We are just two slow in transition. Perhaps Pep should play Bernardo there. Rodri is essentially a new Gareth Barry. He can't move the ball fast enough. He would be good if we were defending a 2 goal lead away in Europe but not at home against West Brom.
It's amazing that Mendy is still getting into the team at all. His legs went two years ago. He would not get in any other PL team.
Rodri isn't fit to lace Gareth's boots. He offers absolutely nothing other than being a danger to the pigeons on the roof with his shooting.

Mancini never let us get this bad.

Give over.

It's not the manager's fault that the players are not putting the ball in the net enough.

We have the most possession, best pass completion, most shots at goal and concede fewest shots on goal.

We face massed defences in a way and with a frequency that I've never before seen.

We are not as good as we were but we are not as bad as a lot of people think.

Mendy offers nothing
Ake looked lost
Rodri can neither pass nor shoot
Sterling is fucking hopeless
Cancello is not a playmaker

Dogshit 1st whistle to the last.

In short, we're a fucking shambles.
I agree with most of this tbh, Mendy is shite and shouldn’t be anywhere near our 1st team, Ake and Rodri struggled today (but I wouldn’t write those off yet).. Sterling is garbage! He passes sideways at best or gets a nosebleed if he gets into the box! DeBruyne is suffering because of the shite around him. Cancello had a couple of good games at LB, but that only papered over the fact that we need new full backs on both sides! (Walker also had a couple of games where he was world class, but that too has gone). Shit performance tonight from the team and from Pep and a rapid decline off the cliff that’s hard to accept but it has happened - any thoughts of the title is fanciful!

KDB is a passenger at the moment. Zero intensity in his game and he has to be taken out of the side.

The squad is a collection of decent players rather than a cohesive unit. We lack leadership on the pitch and don't have enough game changers. Outside of KDB who has had a poor season by his standards (lingering impacts of COVID?) there's just not enough creativity or intent in the squad. The rest are either inconsistent (Raz, Mahrez), oft injured (Sergio), or both (Gabby).

Love them both but neither Bernie or Phil have stepped up to replace the Silva sized hole in the squad.

Rodri, at least at this stage in his career, cannot play the old Fernandinho role by himself. He needs to play alongside another holding mid which can limit us.

It's far down on the list but the fact the club has gone into another season without a proper left back is mind boggling.
