West Brom offer to trial safe standing - rejected page 2

Doesn't seem like DCMS has given much of a reason, so maybe it is that Brexit will mean there isn't time to get legislation through on something like this:

Would seem to be the end of the matter for the foreseeable future, I guess.
unless you change the ball to oval shaped in which case stand and drink beer"........

standing at football matches never killed anybody, fencing people in without means of escape and treating fans like animals was the problem
Correct, and it was basically backed by government until people died.

I never expected "safe standing" to be allowed in England, so not in the slightest bit surprised, instead we'll have unsafe standing, or more likely, just more ejections from stadia.

So out of touch with fans, guess we'll have to carry on with unsafe standing.

if all the clubs got together as one and said we want it then the government would have to let things change back to safe standing even if it meant the clubs adding another £1 or £2 to the price of a standing ticket and giving it charities how could you not back it and say yes. but like many have said the clubs are making far to much from seated ticket to change and that space per seat is now about £45 per club so bringing in a cheap standing ticket does not make any sense to clubs

remember football/premier league is now a family and corporate game and local community fans are being priced out of the game and football/premier league does not really need fans the money its in tv subscription around the world that's pays the bills

Considering both main parties are out for themselves in some way and a waste of time and space i will vote for whoever allows safe standing in the next election.

I personally feel it is non of the governments business. If local police are ok and the club and fans are i couldn't give a toss what some muppet in whitehall thinks or has to say about anything. The government should just say "go for it but if it goes bad, we are going to fucking hammer you to the hilt with fines, got it!"

It comes across as something they can't be arsed dealing with because it would cause them actual hard work. I bet part of the reasoning is "fuck if i'm touching that on my watch, i'll be off in 2 years anyway".

A load of effing shite from the government that is.

It needs legislation to change it though, so they can't even do that.
Urgh, i assume the path just to get to that is a an uphill minefield to. I would wager the stomach to push it through is also not there (politically) or would actively be sabotaged. Shutting it down probably means less hassle and work for the gimp in charge.

''They will continue to monitor the issue of spectator accommodation and the use of safe standing.....''

They have been monitoring it for almost 18 years now....... what more evidence do they need? Wankers.

The DCMS won't give any reason simply because there's no valid reason to give. All the evidence points to safe standing as being safest way forward. Numerous inconsistencies in the Government's approach such as allowing fans at pop concerts and at rugby matches held in football stadia to stand, as well as allowing fans to stand when attending football matches in the lower divisions.

So fans will continue to stand in seated areas which presents a higher safety risk...
