West Brom Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Wanted to do a bit of research as I do and after 18 games United have had their best start to a Premier League season since its formation.

Their current record of P18 W14 D3 L1 GS 47 GC 14 GD +33 Pts 45.

On their current levels their end total should be: P38 Pts 95 GD +70.

That would be a record result for United.

Here's their full totals for each season after 18 games, with bold where they actually ended up at the end of the season, italics where they'd end up if they matched their first 18 game form to the end of the season.

So in summary from that United have done better in the 2nd half of the season(roughly speaking) 10 times, done worse 8 times and about the same once, obviously the extra 19th game to make it exactly half a season could alter the stats slightly, but it's still fairly useful.

To add to that on the 9 occassions United scored more than 40 points in their first 18 games, they only had a better remainder of the season on 1 occassion in 99/00. On 8 occassions they did worse in the 2nd half of the season, albeit sometimes narrowly, sometimes it really did cost them. When they scored less than 40 points only once did they fail to do better in the 2nd half of the season, which was last year when they did about the same in both halves.

Basically it shows they generally even out if they have a really great/really poor first half of the season, when they've had great starts they've never really gone on to blow the league away by doing the same in the 2nd half of the season, in fact they've gone backwards and sometimes it's cost them the league.

On 4 occassions they have gained 40 points or more in the first 18 games of the season and gone on not to win the title, from this position they have won the league 5 times, meaning that they have only a 56% conversion rate when they have 40+ pts from 18 games. On the flip side they have only lost the title 3 times when they scored less than 40 points from 18 games, and won 7 of their titles from this position.

I think there's less to fear than we believe when we get fed it by the media, they are a great side obviously but they're not perfect. They have a number of injuries as well, so we'll see.

Woy proves himself to be yet another rag sycophant and 6 point man:

"In some ways the riches are on the blue side of Manchester but to some extent the quality and talent are on the red side. City could virtually put out two Premier League sides and United have been unlucky with injuries. But the important thing is United beat Fulham 5-0 away in the week and have put five past Wigan today. They're flying."
No Wigan always roll over and die for them.

It's fucking sickening ain't it.

Get your tongue out of pisscan's arse please.

Half the season played - we're on top. Better than I expected.
Rags has a possibly slightly harder second half of the season than us. Good!

Still... I get emotional about footy, as do most board members here. Some take it out on the team. Some take it out on those that take it out on the team. It's OK.

We will leave this game behind and look forward to the next, but a bit of hindsight and besserwisser'ness must be allowed on a Post Match Discussion Thread.

So here's my rant: Yaya doesn't seem to enjoy football at the moment. Something's clearly bothering him. Bobby need to set him straight or put him on the bench - that's HIS job. This has been obvious for at least a month now IMO.
Silva is also bothered about not playing divinely as he did earlier in the season. Maybe a rest would do him good.

On the other hand - the back four (all 7-8 of them) has become much more solid as the season has progressed. Vinny is the best CB in the League and I trust him when he tells us things are gonna be great. WE WILL WIN THE LEAGUE!!!

also they're in second place just now

and we are top of the league

which is nice

On the plus side 3 clean sheets on the Bounce and 7 points out of 9 :)

People are only getting twitchy because united are doing so well.

Liverpool drew, Chelsea drew both at home against teams that you really should be beating at home.West brom have been in form.

I think experience makes united favourites whatever Taggert and people on here say.

It is clear from the way they are playing that we need to win our next 2 as I am certain they will.

I dont like the result at all, mostly because great chances were missed. We should not worry about United's second half and focus on our own, make sure games like these are won.

One positive note from the game, I can tell the defense has become more reliable which is very important.

Bobby and the team need to learn from this, try to figure out ways to score when a team is that deep in their defense. Take some time out of training work on the crosses. The late subs, could come a bit earlier. I would have rested Dzeko the whole game to have him fresh for next, and had Johnson on at about 60 for Milner.

Not happy with the result, but can't let this bring the team down.

Go on then, I'll risk it.

I think many Blues are mixing up people who simply want the best of the best for City with moaning, bitchy and ungrateful glory-hunters.

I for one thought today's result wasn't great, I thought the performance was okay, except there was no killer pass. We weren't clinical but yet again we were defensively solid and the score perfectly reflected that.

Anyway, a lot of people aren't happy because they want to be top, they wanna win every game, and this City team can, they actually can win every game. But for saying 'we should've win that', people get moaned at for being 'moaners and ungrateful'. I think the vast majority are extremely grateful, but things have changed.

At the end of the day, we're top dogs now, and we can stay there. But just because 11 years ago we were flirting with lower divisions doesn't mean we can just refer to York away every time we drop points in a game that on paper we should've won.

However, today wasn't a disaster, and anybody claiming it is should remember that we're still top of the league after almost half of a season with a favourable fixture list compared to our nearest rivals, whilst still challenging in 3 other cups. I just think people are being too openly criticised by fellow Blues for displaying a bit of frustration.

He said he's not happy with the result. That's it. I agree, but I'm fully aware we're top of the league, and on a good run of results as it is. Odd that.

Maybe you understood me wrong, I was more thinking about frustration etc. Really don't need your sarcasm bs.
