West Brom Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Happy to see we conceded two late goals to keep the moaning going on here.

Seriously, we played a fantastic 1st half, led comfortably 2-0 at h-t, controlled the game in the 2nd half, got a reward and went 3 up, only to hand WBA a scoreline that flattered them by scoring an unlucky ricochet own goal and did some poor defending in the last minute of extra time. WBA deserve some credit as they kept trying to come at us and I understand why they managed good results vs the scum, Chelsea and Arsenal. We were simply too good for them, other than the last goal we conceded. It was a far more convincing victory that the last 2 years at this ground.

another really enjoyable night being entertained by our superb side, football isn't an exact science and we are not perfect, but we are very very good, the workrate and desire has been excellent, and for the record I think albion and Swansea have played some good stuff against us, but we are so clinical.

The only way to deal with the defending or to be accurate the lack of concentration for the full 90+ mins is to accept it. We are what we are. Excellent forward play but prone to sloppy lapses when the team decides to go walkabout. Its a mentality thing. Its always a mentality thing. It always will be a mentality thing and it ain't going to magically cure itself.

On a totally separate note I can't remember the last time I enjoyed MOTD so much...

Why should a mentality thing simply be accepted if it's something that can be worked on?

Presumably the club has ready access to expert motivational resource.

West Brom 2 City 3: Five things we learned
4 Dec 2013 23:46

Check out five things we learned from Manchester City's victory against West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Cool as Kompany

City's skipper could be forgiven for being a touch rusty in his first game back for two months but not a bit of it. Not only does he bring his own excellent abilities to the back line but his calmness transfers to the rest of the defensive unit. Apart from a late lapse, which is a useful and sharp reminder that the City defence is still a work in progress, Kompany's return showed great promise.

Yaya on a roll

Yaya Toure is unstoppable when he's in the mood and two more goals took his tally up to nine for the season. If he can maintain this sort of form for the rest of the campaign City will surely be strong favourites to lift the Premier League trophy again. The fact that David Silva is yet to come back into this side must send shudders of fear down the Blues' Premier League rivals.

Pellegrini faith justified

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has been steadfast in his opinion that City's away performances this season have not been rewarded with the points they have deserved. And the way the Blues bossed matters at the Hawthorns in the first half backed up his belief. There is no great mystery to City's still poor away record of two wins, a draw and four defeats. It's the bounce of a ball here, an individual error there. But the law of averages mean a team this good will win more often than not.

City getting stronger

With Kompany back and Jack Rodwell coming on for a welcome late appearance, the Blues squad is looking deep at just the right time. Stevan Jovetic, Silva and Matija Nastasic are not far off fitness and if they all return with no more problems picked up elsewhere City will be superbly placed to tackle the busy festive period. Pellegrini's main problem will be keeping them all happy.

Focus is key

City fans will have been left with an unpleasant aftertaste courtesy of two late West Brom goals. It didn't cost them here but it might have done against one of their title rivals. You feel the Blues are so good sometimes they switch off, but they need to find the relentless mentality that all great champions have. No doubt Pellegrini will have been telling his side that the game should have finished four or five nil rather than 3-2.

And this is our soft under belly and if not eradicated anytime soon it could very realistically cost us a serious shot at the title.

my onions for what its worth, thought the team put a lot of effort into starting the game in the right manner, then a mixture of,rotation, tiredness, and complacence, cost us 2 goals at the end ,but any away win is a good win ,so well done city ,and the fans were very good also,

The 2 goals at the end were very annoying, but in reality there was no real way they could have changed the result. The second was with <1 minute in injury time left and there was no realistic way West Brom could ever have got a third. So I am not over-fussed about this.

If we win at Southampton (which I think we will), the signs would be clear that we have fixed our away form. At which point, the rest of the division should be very, very afraid.
