I hope this thread is taken the right way by other supporters who might no longer be able to share the mindset of an old-school Manchester City fan for who failures were etched on the brain. Typical City, Cityitis, call it what you will, i for one was brought up expecting us to fall flat on our faces whenever possible. In 25 years of supporting City i've never expected us to win a game. I've never even thought we would. Not once, if memory serves, have i experienced positive butterflies in my stomach ahead of a game, even when we've been at home, post takeover, against teams at the other end of the table. It's not in my DNA to get overconfident, or to even expect. If anything can go wrong then is surely will, and of course for many years it did.

I can't shake the thought that we'll balls up tomorrow. That we'll somehow contrive to give the game to a West Ham side with little to play for, and in turn hand the title to Liverpool on a plate. There's no real logic behind my thoughts, just sheer panic that we'll somehow concede the league at the latest, most painful (for us), funniest (for non-City fans) moment, when it's all but in the bag. The fact that our season could be deemed a failure (wrongly, in my opinion) based on one moment scares the living daylights out of me.

I'll apologise in advance to the City supporters who find this sort of Schindler-like mindset annoying and dated, but for me the self-depricating doom mongering of Blues was part of what made me fall in love with the club, and if we ever lose that altogether than it'd be a shame. I understand how it does no good, but it's hard to leave behind, and i hope people can appreciate that at the root of any obsessive cynic's killjoying is the deeply engrained fear of the team he/she loves falling short.

Very, very nervous.

I for one, am not going to simply dismiss your thought process.

45 years of support for me, and seen more than enough pain to last a lifetime,

Tomorrow however, we will have Hart, Zaba, Vinny, Yaya, Merlin, Nasri, Dzeko, Ferny, and Kun.

Our home record is solid, and the boys above will deliver what is required.

I am rarely confident, but let's keep the faith and win this title.

Don't fall for what fat Sam is puking from his fat lips.... ..its a trap.
Stay calm and pass the ball to Silva.

Now I can get back to my dark corner :)

Good read Pardoe and know what you mean
I too don't like being over confident and am in the hope for the best expect the worst club,at times.
though I'm not as bad as I used to be,just accept now that this team will win us trophys over the coming years, not a bad
feeling to have,is it ?
Must admit though I feel more nervous about the match tomorrow than I did two seasons ago going into the final game,
I didn't feel any nerves in the build up at all then.
Anyway
COME ON CITY !!!

No, but now you've been reminded that tomorrow we could be 2-1 down with 88 minutes on the clock.

a chant for zabbas favourite song

Whoever we want
Whoever we like
Whoever we say
We pay the money
We make our choice

Wherever we play
Wherever we booze
If we win
Or if we lose
We’ll follow the blues………

We can make you an offer you can't refuse

Is anyone feeling this way because its red scouse who will benefit if we lose tomorrow. I know there's a piece of me thinks that. I would be less anxious if it were say Everton or Southampton pushing us to the wire

You boys keep mentioning Andy Carrol and how dangerous of a header of the ball he is and how aerial battles will be critical , however you all forgot what player has scored the most headers in the PL over the last 3 seasons ..... Edin Dzeko , not to mention for Corners and set pieces Carrol won't get a whiff of the ball with Dzeko next to him as well as Kompany & MDM

I'm glad the players aren't like some of the nerve wrecks on here. These are the moments in time we could have only dreamed off for most of my lifetime, I'm 46 by the way. Enjoy the occasion and loudly cheer our boys on. We'd all love a routine 4-0 win , it may happen ,it may not but at the end of the day as long as we get over the line somehow that's all that matters. Believe, the players do!

FFS will you lot man up and top acting like the worlds biggest gathering of big girls blouses.

Carroll is more likely to get sent off than score the way he blunders around. Downing couldn't cross the bloody road. We're playing a team against whom this season, we set a record for most one sided League cup semi combined score.

All this crap the players and Fat Sam are spouting is just whistling in the dark.

Our boys have been here before and know the way to do it. OK they gave us all heart attacks last time but it won't happen this time.

Enjoy tomorrow. There are going to be plenty more days like that coming along.

No its not overconfidence. I felt exactly the same when we had to play Stoke in the FA cup final.
And Wigan (twice)?

Very, very nervous.

All of us over a certain age will be feeling this,we couldn't think any differently because we had years of failure and being let down at critical moments and it is ingrained in our dna.

Even with the world class talent we have at our disposal now, cometh the squeaky bum time we often seem to freeze or save our worst performances when we need our best.We just never do it easy.

QPR two years ago,Wigan in the cup final,Sunderland in the Capital one cup when we were utter dogshite and clueless until two quality goals from nowhere won us the game. The plus side is we got through them all and won aside from Wigan.

Tomorrow i hope it is different. As always in games like this the early goal is crucial. If we get it it knocks the stuffing out of the opposition and we seem to go up a gear, conceed and it becomes a nervous, fraught, edgy performance. The fact we can draw the game should take some pressure off,man for man we are better than West Ham and should have enough in the locker to beat them.
