West Ham United (A) | Post-Match Thread

even a draw and its all but ours due to our goal difference and providing we dont lose to villa

Im hoping the southampton fans turn it nasty as Im not sure they are fodn of liverpool nicking their players(Mane, VVD)....btu on paper it should be a stroll for Liverpool.......just hope they dont rack up a cricket score against them
Don’t think it’ll make a difference if they do score a shed load, we’ll still be a point in front and we’ll still need to beat villa. Hopefully saints will turn em over

The way we played its a good result, we didn't really deserve the win based on how bad the defence was

We have a few tough decisions to make going forward

The following need to go
Fern - legend but finished, done.
Zinch
Mahrez - contract
Jesus
Sterling - contract

The following need to find form
Cancelo
Grealish - judge on 2nd year
Ederson - bit flakey, but some harsh treatment

I wouldn't be gutted to see Laporte leave but think he will stay

We need a left back, time to stop fucking about with square pegs and round holes

We need pace injecting into this side, I'm hoping haaland and alvarez add some but I'll love a quick winger to replace mahrez

Strange that mahrez has great season on stats but some anonymous performances, did pretty much nothing today, even the goal was a cross that was nowhere near any of our players
Re: a quick winger - get Harrison back from Leeds? Obviously Pep doesn't rate him, otherwise we wouldn't have sold him. Have rated his performances for Leeds, personally.

We’d have taken 4 points from these two games at the outset..it was always going to be tough going to West Ham….not sure we were as bad in the first half as people making out…just very weak defensively especially on the break…which was always going to be the case with the injuries.

Said it before but my only problem with Pep is his reluctance to blood youngsters especially in games that have already been won….I’d rather have a 19 years old specialist defender than a 37 years old midfielder playing there.

Could have been a lot worse though…Souhampton have a history of conceding lots of goals in games….can’t ask for much more than it being in our own hands !

Shock of the season incoming, guys: Saints, playing with a care in the world, but right up for it, give City the title!
Ok, being facetious, but it's not parallel universe stuff. Dippers to me have been looking rocky for weeks. Scraping through. They're finding this end of season and the quadruple expectation heavy on their shoulders. What was the difference between them winning and losing it yesterday? Nothing, really nothing. But I know one thing: the psychological and physical effect of that match, with extra time on the Wembley turf and penalties going right to the death, will be weighing on them.
Not expecting it, of course. But I wouldn't be that surprised.

More likely Liverpool pull back most of the goal difference back

Yeah, I was just offering perspective. Regardless, it means fuck all if we win on Sunday.

Love how blues are setting on other blues for looking on the bright side. Some of you live to be miserable twats.

The big positive for me is how we came back to keep the title race firmly in our control. I thought Grealish was excellent as well. Easily his best game in a City shirt.

The negatives were Eddie and Zinchenko who were dreadful from start to finish. I thought no one in the back 5 played well but those two were the worst.

Incredibly frustrating how Liverpool are still in this title race. They’re obviously a great side but we’ve had at least 3/4 opportunities to kill them off and failed to take them. As the Madrid game showed, anything can happen in football when you fail to take your chances.

At the start of the season I think we all would have taken a final home game against Villa to win the league. That said, Villa fans and the Gerrard/Coutinho - Liverpool connection will mean they are bang up for it. In Watkins and Coutinho they also have players who can hurt us.

I’d still make us odds on favourites though

Antonio was an absolute disgrace today, constantly diving, throwing dissent at the officials and escaped a booking for it all. Not seen him like that before

He deserved a booking for his antics for sure. But from our point of view he gave it his absolute all, chased down everything and at times caused havoc. That’s all you can ask from a lone striker against one of the best teams in the world - If only he could f*ckin finish!
