West ham Vs City Post Match Thread

Just been reading how clever Fat Sam is or was on Saturday .... This is the same bloke who got thrashed at the swamp just a few games ago - why wasn't he so clever then ???? W Anchor

Let the beached whale enjoy his day in the sun , he has murdered the dippers , scraped a win against us , and now hes a managerial genius , lets see where they are in the new year , with a couple of injuries and suspensions , and their new players coping with a hard english winter.
Mid table is my prediction , wish will be fitting for a mediocre manager

I think Stuart Brennan's piece contains some painful truths. West Ham played with a zest and energy that we have been lacking most of the season. The hard truth is I don't think we have played great football in any game this season. As Brennan said Song killed us in the midfield, and the two forwards always posed a threat. It seems that Manuel locked the doors after the West Ham game and I have no doubt that there was some brutal self-examination of the performance. At least I hope that was the case.

The team looks like it needs an injection of the dynamism of youth. I wouldn't have the slightest concern if MP called up the two players who I think are potential stars in the EDS squad (Barker and Pozo) and played them against Newcastle.

We need a shakeup because to me there looks to be a staleness about the team. Whether it's a hangover from the a World Cup, or dealing with the psychology of being defending champions, it's hard to pinpoint.

Points wise this season we aren't in a bad position comparative to previous seasons. It's more that we haven't clicked into gear. At the moment I keep on thinking that the next game will be the game when we take off. Let's hope it's this coming week. There could be no greater motivation than next weekend to kick start our season.

The squad seems to be sharing a huge dose of fatigue and it's only the back end of October! Other than Chelsea, every other club, almost, is sharing that fatigue with us and the table shows it. In our case, the late finish to the World Cup and the early start to the league season, with International football thrown into the mix, just seems to have wrecked our preparations. With a club like ours and with the kind of players on our books, it's always going to be a problem as the major nations will be in competitions longer, unlike the Serbia's and Montenegro's of this world, and with our players sometimes having to face trips half way around the globe, then to return to stupid kick-off times for those great gogglebox gods in the corner of our living rooms, then burnout becomes inevitable. Throw in FFP regulations which effectively meant we had to have a reduced squad to play out the season with, it becomes even more inevitable that what happened at West Ham will be repeated on other days.

I think you're advocating throwing the baby out with the bath water. West Ham caught us cold on an early Saturday fixture after a midweek trip to Russia which will have taken it's toll on the players both physically and mentally.

I'm sure there were some home truths which needed to be spoken after Saturday but I think in the greater scheme of things this result might be a blessing in disguise if we get the reaction we normally get after a defeat from our big players.

it was probably the worst time to play West Ham as they were flying and all buoyed up with the new signings it was almost like playing a newly promoted club.A fair few players had absolute shockers and both of their goals were comic book defending, yet with a bit better finishing incredibly we could have drawn and even won the game.

One thing i have noticed with our defence is often one of our smaller players either Clichy or Zabba seem to find themselves in the middle going for a header with a much bigger player and lose.Where are the centre halves and why are we being so sucked out of position this way?

Fat Sam is being lauded as some tactical genius but Neville was pointing out our left side was our weak spot two seasons ago and it still hasn't been addressed,so no big spot there Sam.We have a centre half struggling with the pace of the premier league and were fucked after a tough trip to Russia and an early kick off.As well as West Ham played they got lucky they caught us on an off day and if Aguero's and Toure's shots hadn't hit the bar he would be lamenting about ''That's what big money buys you,we gave it a go but the two players who won it cost more than our whole team.''

Big week for the manager now he has to decide whether to try and ease Mangala in or leave him out for a bit and ditch the fucking 4-4-2 and get Silva central,no more fucking about and room for errors the season starts now!!

It was obvious that we would really have to be up for it on Saturday given their recent form ,so if they 'caught us cold' then that smacks of ill planning and complacency. Similarly this weekend the rags will start fast on the basis we will be still off colour and our defence looks poor.

Maybe from the outside it smacks of those things. I suspect on the inside it speaks to fatigue, both mental and physical, and our biggest and best players being below par. It happens, as Mancini used to say, this is football.

I think what you cannot question is this squad's capacity to bounce back from set backs in a positive way. We've seen this time and time again since it was put together and I'd expect the same starting midweek and carrying on into the derby.

I thought we lost the game before it started with that team.

Away to West Ham and we start Yaya, Silva and Navas in a midfield 4 along with Fernando? That's nowhere near strong enough defensively.

That's maybe ok if we're playing Burnley, but we were playing West Ham away. West Ham have been very good this season and at their ground to play that midfield was ridiculous.

Any midfield 4 and Fernandinho and Milner simply have to play.

As much as I rate both Dzeko and Aguero (probably the best in the league), I'm not sure they're a good enough partnership to warrant going 4-4-2.

I think Kolarov has to come in for Clichy. I don't think Clichy is good enough to play every week for a team challenging for the title, he should be second choice (like Sagna).

The manager has got it wrong too many times this season and it's a bit worrying. Pellegrini was obviously excellent last season, but it's been the opposite this season for me.

That's about it in a nutshell.

Talk of lethargy, and being 'caught cold' is nonsense.
The hammers did a number on us because we set up wrong and allowed them to,it wasn't due to tactical genius from BFS,more tactical incompetence by Pellegrini.

It was always going to be a tough gig,but with a complimentary eleven on the pitch,we'd now be three points better off.
