What are your unpopular opinions on City that you believe 100%?

I’ve noticed this trend amongst some older members of our fanbase too, and I don’t really understand why they have such a dislike for him.

Why do you think they can’t get behind him?

My sense is it’s something to do with him not ‘getting us’ like Mancini did - which seems to boil down to his being complimentary about the Rags and their history in his press conferences rather than slagging them off all the time, and not prioritising the derbies as necessarily being any more important than any other game during the season.

A hang up from when the derby was the only game that mattered, which is their sweet spot as fans.

The reality is Pep isn’t a populist tub thumper, and this cerebral sense of distance from the blood and thunder of football rivalry doesn’t fit their idea of what a ‘proper’ City manager ought to look and sound like.

Some of it is because he makes them feel inferior. His superiority makes them feel shit because his understanding of the game is beyond anything they could ever comprehend.

10 years ago, the chasm between those two (re the hatred I feel for them) was huge. You could even say, er, "massive". While our quiet neighbours still top the list, that gap has significantly narrowed.
Yeah there’s definitely been a change over the last decade. It’s not just because we’ve been in close competition with them. I don’t mind the players or the manager. It’s the fans, the bus attack, the attitude, they always manage to live down to their reputation.

I suppose it’s been very easy to ignore United recently because they’re crap.

Other fans would bloody love this thread! Still, quite cathartic, so here I go:

We do have empty seats even when we're sold out. I don't know how that happens, but other clubs seem to have found an answer to it, so why can't we?

Blue Moon being a funerial dirge, especially given that we only sing the one bit of it over again until it peters out, doesn't seem to be that unpopular an opinion, but I'll state it again.

Away fans always have loads of songs. Somehow at the Etihad we sing the same ones again and again. Another club quite close to Manchester seems to do a lot better in this regard.

Alex Ferguson was the greatest manager in football history.

People deliberately/accidentally misspelling UEFA and EUFA tells me a lot about where it's coming from.

If we don't win, I do give a fuck, regardless of whether or not I'm all pissed up.

Singing songs about United when we're not playing them makes us look small/bitter. On a similar vein, it always made me sad that of the three most popular songs about Aguero, two of them were basically taking the piss out of United and the other was just singing his first name a lot. He deserved a lot more.

I'd rather win the Champions League than another 3 Premier Leagues.

And breathe....

Underlined: it’s good to know that we can criticise ourselves, as well as take the piss out of ourselves and not take ourselves too seriously. One thing I’ve felt over the last decade is that we’ve lost a bit of that as a fanbase and many are too sensitive to all the media stuff and too paranoid about refs/VAR/everyone-having-it-in-for-us.

This thread wouldn’t exist on a certain other club’s forum, and I think it’s good that it does exist on here.

And people have fallen out less on this thread less than they do on normal threads haha!

Dzeko’s attitude wasn’t the best and shouldn’t be forgotten. Had a face like a smacked arse even when he played.

Bony wasn’t a bad signing on the face of it, just turned out to be one.

Michael Johnson would’ve been a more complete player than the majority of the youngsters coming through now.

Ederson is a shit shot stopper but more than makes up for it with his distribution.

We were losing the CL final regardless of the team put out. Had it been this year, we’d have won it but we couldn’t control games then like we do now.

Tevez is up there with our greatest ever players.

I find that utterly unbelievable, let alone unpopular. Just can't get my head around that thinking, the league is everything.

We don't need all players to be great at keeping possession, some with other skills, like Walker, Sterling, are essential to our prolonged success.

Sane didn't have the mentality to survive the competition in the City squad, if he had he would have been one of our most important players.

Sterling is naturally talented, that's why he performs better when he's not thinking. He has mental blocks when he has time to think.

Some people actually wants Sterling to leave this season or next because they're afraid that he'll end up having a statue outside Etihad ;)

Gareth Barry and De Jong were
limited players yet adored, Gundogan is one of the best in his position last decade he's not yet fully accepted or loved.

James Milner is the only ex-player I hate, it makes me sad to think that he's won CL and not the likes of Kompany, David or Kun.

There's a certain tension between posters who support Grealish and those who support Sterling.

People often forget Dinho was not always preferred for two title run ins and kept out by Gundogan and Javi Garcia.

Despite all available 'news' pointing to possibility of it, we won't sign Haaland

I know Stephen Ireland was crap elsewhere but at City I still believe he would have been great had he been kept.

It still sickens me more than any other player to go.
I agree, he had so much talent. I do wonder how he would’ve developed under someone like Pep.
