What areas in Greater Manchester are blue?

Manchester is all Blue because the shit houses dare not come out in their rags through embarrassment !!

Or, if it is easier, which areas are not blue?

Silly Q. Manchester is all BLUE.

It is Kent, Sussex, London, Singapore (etc.) that is Red. (for now)

My standard answer when asked this abroad by foreigners and fans of other teams within England always used to be (when we were shite):-

1 It depends what you me mean.
2 Amongst match going fans it's 60:40 Blue across both the City of Manchester & Greater Manchester.
3 In any city most people aren't really that interested in football (90%) but will follow whoever is successful.
4 Amongst the general population of Greater Manchester it's 70:30 Red for the reason outlined above.
5 Both teams have genuine ie match going and plastic support in all parts of Greater Manchester.
6 City's core areas of support are the City of Manchester, Stockport & Tameside.
7 United's core area is around Salford and Trafford although there are loads of match going Blues in those areas especially parts of Trafford.

With City now being successful and United in decline I would imagine that the plastic 70:30 figure is now closing rapidly especially amongst the kids.

Lived in Gtr Manchester all my life.
Seen more red shirts walking about in Bangkok.

Does it even matter where people are, as we move around so quickly.

Many blues I've met in the Bury area I've found have actually moved from different parts of the north west and into Bury.

People born in Chester, move to Bury, work in Preston, family from Wales, off spring living in California...

Society is different to say how it was in the 1940s when the first thing my Grandfather did when he came back from Navy service?
Straight to Maine Road.

Rags are currently in hibernation right now anyway... not seen any, plenty of blues though :-)
yes you are right mate when i first started going out to manchester city centre in the mid 80s they were about 200 people living in the centre ,but now there is 20,000 and rising, and is the centre blue or red nobody knows for sure, on my street in ashton a newcastle fan next door the other side a man utd fan male married to a liverpool fan, west brom season ticket holder afew door away the rest are amixture of blues and reds, but there are about 20 houses where i dont know who the occupants support or even like football. so for people to say there towns are blue or red must be geniuses like that character out of the rain man movie

Good post.

I go for a run in Heaton Park often, I'm seeing shirts from all over the show. Notts county, Sunderland, obviously loads of Blue and Red, Rochdale, Oldham, Liverpool is another popular one.

I expect to see Barca/Inter/Real madrid shirts as these are the fashionable clubs but I have seen say a Middlesboro shirt in this park in Gtr Manchester and sure they may not actually live in the area, but just speaking with people out and about you come across a more varied society.

Surprised me how many Southern Blues were in the Cocktail bar outside Wembley stadium for the CS game the other week.

So, are there specific areas that are "Blue" ?

For me, it depends on what's going on.

1 - City just win a league or a match etc
2 - Utd have just lost a match
3 - it's nice weather
= Many people decide to throw their City shirts on to celebrate and or to wind up Rags.

Same applies with Rags.

1 - United win the International Guiness Cup (lol)
2 - They sign a worldclass player in Rojo (lol)
3 - again, nice weather
= Loads of Rag shirts out and about.

Stockport must be blue. After all, isn't that where we're all from? ;-)

I seriously am from Stockport and like my family and most of my mates, I am of course a Blue :)

I always thought the general rue of thumb was the southern and eastern parts of the Manchester were mainly City, whereas the western and northern areas had a higher proportion of united fans.
I thought the area near the Etihad was massively red. That will soon change as little blues come through the ranks. East Gorton seems more blue than red. Stockport is rag-invested in many parts.

The area around our ground is man yoo jungle.

When County were still in the league a lot of them would go along to Edgeley Park on the Friday night and then Maine Rd on the Saturday. Hell, I even went to Edgeley Park a few times myself (needless to say, a loooong time ago).
