What book are you reading now / or recommend?

Just finished Day of the Jackal for the third time. Top notch read .
Just started Colin Bell Reluctant Hero.

I've been searching for a good book to read for quite some time with numerous failures.
"One Second After" for example - highly rated, rave reviews. Except that in the first few chapters an episode occurs in which the Yankee protagonist is being threatened by some Southern boys armed with shotguns. Brave hero takes out his pistol and fires into the air over the heads of the criminals who are brandishing the shotguns. They retreat. Later, the Southerners warm to the hero, praising his bravery. One of the shotgun wielders goes up to our hero and shakes his hand, relating something along the lines that, "For a Yankee, you've got courage. You're alright."

WTF? So it's OK to assault someone with shotguns - it's OK to counter by threatening the attacker with a high caliber pistol. And it's a measure of social justice that both the shotgun wielder and the pistol brander make friends.

Anyhow, check out William Kent Krueger's novels. I recently bought:
Cork O'Connor Mystery Series Book 1)

William Kent Krueger knows how to write. If you like crime dramas you won't be disappointed.

Just finished The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe - one of the best books I have read in a long time.

I am pilgrim by Terry Hayes is worth a read.
I finished this a few weeks ago, and was disappointed overall. The story is ok, quite fast moving and compelling. The ending is ok, and as others have said, there are some interesting twists in the plot. But for me, the link between two unconnected crimes, one in Europe, the other in America, leading to the same guy solving both and saving the world to boot, is just too far fetched.

I went from this to Once a Pilgrim by James Deegan. This is another in the growing genre of retired SAS soldier turned security consultant, in the style of Andy McNab / Chris Ryan. I really enjoyed it, and am about to purchase the second in the series for my holiday reading on my Kindle.
