What book are you reading now / or recommend?

I'm reading The Hobbit to my son at the moment and we're fairly near the end. I've not seen the films but unless a hell of a lot happens in the last 50 pages I'm completely baffled how they made three films out of it. Not that much happens.

The last book I read I stopped reading as it was too complicated. Spot The Dog it was called. Blew my mind!!!

A Pelican special from 1970 called 'Sanity, Madness and the Family'. It's a collection of interviews with schizophrenics and their families and postulates some pretty far out ideas about the condition. Picked it up in Emmaus Mossley for 40p.

Just finished Two Brothers by Ben Elton. I've loved every book he has written but this was a bit different. It's about a Jewish family living in Berlin in the 20's and 30's. Loved it. I got the feeling the portrayal of what it was like being a Jew living there then was pretty spot on, considering his own Father lived through it.

New one by Lee Child, 'Personal'. A good exciting read, though getting a little fed up with Jack Reacher, i think this series of books have run their course.

I read this a few weeks before Christmas and I gave my opinion on it a few pages ago.

Two posts at once on the "Last Book You Read/Reading" thread one after the other ! - another excellent novel from Elton which I read in the summer. Posters are going to start taking my opinions seriously and stop thinking I am just some northern knob.

I thought it was his Uncle who lived through it Mac and the family managed to get his Dad to London just before it all really started but the writing was clearly on the wall ?
