What book are you reading now / or recommend?

Just started 'Murder in Mississippi' by John Safran.
('The true story of how I met a white supremacist, befriended his black killer and wrote this book').

It's certainly different to the last one I read.

Fire Force, it's the second in the Death Force series about modern-day mercenaries. Like the first one, I'm enjoying it immensely.
It's nonsense but really easy reading with some great action. It's also nice to read a war story without any Americans in.
No doubt if they made a film of it, the main characters would all be ex-Navy Seals or Delta, instead of the nice mix of Brits, Aussies, and Russians. There's even an old Provo on the team. How times have changed.

I've started on these Stony, cheers for the heads up. They're not going to win any awards but really good, easy reads and as you say it's a good to change up from the 'Yanks save the day' fare that you normally find in this genre.

Time and Time Again. It's Ben Elton so it's not going to be the most sophisticated piece of writing but it is just a damned good story.

I don't think I've ever read a Ben Elton book that I disliked or found boring; he's very good.

You're welcome mate, I've just started Shadow Force which is the third one. I think there are only 4, so when I've read them all I'll have a change of genre.

Just finished Half A Crown by Jo Walton. Unfortunately I didn't realise it was the third book of a trilogy but I don't think I missed too much by not reading the other two. It's set in possibly in the late 1950's/early 60's of a fictional post-war Britain where a peace treaty is about to be concluded between Germany, Britain and Japan, Russia having been nuked out of existence.

The Duke of Windsor is coming for the conference but planning a fascist coup against his niece. The head of the British equivalent to the Gestapo has to stop him but has problems of his own. Very good read.
