What has the UK become?

Perhaps we need to look at not making millions of people resettle and see if we can keep them where they are from by investing in their countries and rebuilding broken infrastructure etc where possible.

We take very few in comparison with mainland Europe and most of that is because of the difficulty in getting here. It’s hard to get angry about the boats as we’ve created that issue ourselves.

Maybe some form of international agreement about how many each country should take could come in too. Maybe linked to population density?
Ah, population density. Thanks for the cue. Rwanda is the most densely populated country in mainland Africa at 1,152.5 persons per square mile. In contrast, the UK has a population density of 281.18 people per square mile

Are you seriously implying that any of the people arriving by boat could get a visa to fly in like all the second generation immigrant Tory politicians' parents did?

You just made that up Vic.

Anyway, it seems many arriving by boat are now quickly making their way to Cairnryan so they can make it over to Northern Ireland and onto the republic.

Surely the Republic of Ireland will be welcoming, especially as they are also in the EU?

What’s that? No? Emergency legislation to try and make them come back into the UK?

Shirley not, this is the all welcoming EU we are talking about yes?

Thoughts on that Vic?

Well, I may not be very good at grasping what you're implying, but I think you're implying that the Rwanda policy is driving asylum seekers in the UK to escape to a civilised country that respects international law.

Maybe they're just realising how crap the UK is. And that Ireland is in the EU, so when they eventually become Irish citizens they can work anywhere in the EU.

Immigration to Ireland has long been higher (relative to the existing population) than in the UK. Last year's immigration was still less than the last high in 2007.

Ireland of course would have at least three times its present population without 300 years of mass emigration. (Twice as many Irish people have emigrated than live there now.)

And it makes a nonsense of "stop the boats" to stop trafficking if in effect Sunak wants to traffick people on to Ireland.

They came from the EU and are returning to the EU.

Some people think that these migrants didn't come from the EU but straight from where they left, their country of origin. How many times have we heard that refugees can claim asylum in any country but obviously not Ireland.

It's OK they will be welcome with a smile.

The level of debate on this is mind-blowingly stupid.

Ireland enacted an illegal migration act when they realised they were going to get too many visitors too.

So are you for or against Irelands forthcoming emergency legislation to return asylum seekers because they don’t want them?
