What if...? - The Questions Nobody Asked

A slight side-track.
What if Rugby matches were won by the side which scores the most tries?
(Kicked points only significant if tries are equal)

Of course, originally it was the complete opposite.

Tries counted for nothing other than a try at kicking a goal.

Hi blues, looking for your help!

People who have seen me posting on here might know I do a lot of 'data stuff'. That is my day job as it happens. So I've started a bit of a hobby blog (it is not monetized in any way, so this isn't a sales pitch).

If I'm honest, I started it more for my own amusement and a place to put my thoughts. It is all about looking at ridiculous hypothetical situations in football, and using data and analytics (which is normally for serious things) to try and spin some outlandish scenarios. The first one is about what would happen if City stopped passing and just started bombing shots from anywhere:

So the reason I'm here is basically to look for suggestions on what I can look at next. Ideas I've had:

- What if Guardiola managed Bromley?
- What if the ball was never allowed to leave the ground?
- What if you got rid of the offside rule overnight?

Would love to hear more ridiculous ideas along these lines, what would people here like to see? Doesn't have to be City related (hence the general forum). Or you can just call me a rag and tell me to fuck off. I'm expecting a mix of both of these responses!

By the way, there's this really bizarre new feature Google has where they will make a podcast out of your article - it's a bit unnerving but quite cool - you can listen to it at the top of the page.
How many goals from corners would we concede if when the opposition had a corner we left 5 on the half way line?

Not going to lie, I have my work cut out with some of these suggestions, especially the ones about people being pissed in the 80s. Not sure how good the data is on those things. Thanks for the suggestions though blues, I have a bit of research to do.

What if City had sided with Manchester Central, and allowed the rags to go to the wall?
It’s a fascinating question. Ultimately would Central have moved into the new stadium in 2003 as the ‘local’ club. Then would they have received the investment?

I reposted one of my old articles on Central’s story yesterday:

Hi Gary, a bit off topic and a bit off forum really but I've often thought that a book about the rise and fall of Colne Dynamoes FC would make fascinating reading - there is/was a book on the subject but is difficult to obtain and also poorly written judging from the odd excerpt I've read.

What if penalties had to be taken with the player's weak foot?

What if throw ins could be done under arm?

What if all games that ended in a draw went to penalty shoot out?

What if you couldn't make a sub if you are winning?

What if Hillsborough never happened
Would the dippers still get a free pass on Heysel ? Would the the media be more free to mention it without fear of being ostracized now that they can't hide their shame of 85 behind the Hillsborough tragedy?

What if the USA spoof advert for Multi Ball.. an extra ball in play for extra time, became real?

Wotif Manc Central had Lord Pannick as their lawyer ?

What if football meant more to City fans?

What if Aguero had gone down and Balotelli missed the penalty?

Whenever I watch that game back I always think, what if Nasri had have kept the ball in play when SWP was tackled by Vinny... He thought it was a City throw but we ended up getting the ball back and scoring the winner.
