What if we just went with Delap, Jesus, and Torres?

If we end the transfer window with Jesus, Delap and Torres as our striker options - then we likely will not win the P/L - let alone the C/L - next year. Teams around us are strengthening. So too must we, to keep up and maintain our competitive advantage.

Honestly, I‘d love it if we just went with Delap as our main option up front.

Ballsy move but it’s been done before. Kane and Rooney got that chance when they were young. Best development you can give him

Kane spent several years learning his game in the lower leagues and Everton took a chance on Rooney but he was their best player and they were hardly title challengers.

Rooney as much as he’s an utter bell would have been playing in our team most weeks at 18. He was freakishly good as a young player so trying to compare a player with potential but the first touch of Shaun Goater is a little bit silly. Not improving our team with top class players after winning titles has come back to bite us on the arse on a few occasions. I trust the board will have learnt from the RVP mistake by now.

Untried in the Premier League it might just work.

But in reality it would probably be an unmitigated disaster. Do you want to go into a season on a wing and a prayer.

If we go into another season without a decent left back and without a top class striker someone wants fucking. I trust Ferran I don`t have any confidence in Begiristain.

I`d love it if he turns out to be good enough. The odds are hugely stacked against him reaching a good enough level to even play for a championship team.

Rooney was a freak in more ways than one. Also I think Harry was loaned out for a couple of years and did not break into the first team as a kid. Unlike the case of Forden the best developmental path for Delap would be a loan move. Ironically he could end up with Rooney which might be what is pissing some people off.
Jesus and Torres are a bit different in their approach Torres seems to run in behind a lot but we don't seem to pick him out very often. Gabby we know offers a lot but neither seem capable of more than 10 or 15 goals a season or importantly getting those really important goals in tight games which Kun was so good at.

Jesus has scored 82 goals for City in 168 games, under the shadow of Agüero. Now Kun has gone, it’s time for Jesus to step up now. I’d rather see him grow into a top player over the next few years than sign Kane.

Jesus doesn't even consider himself to be a striker. And he's shown over the years - given ample opportunity in a role he doesn't embrace - that he really isn't a top striker and never, ever will be.

Jesus is a gifted forward. End of.

As much as I think Harry Kane isn't the answer, I don't think this is it either. I'm hoping we have someone else lined up.

From the Fail. Not sure their conclusion that he isnt going on loan is what Pep said but hey.

'There was also confirmation that Liam Delap, the highly-rated 18-year-old striker, will not be heading out on loan. Half of the Championship have asked about the England youth international, who signed a new five-year contract last week.

Delap obliterated the Premier League 2 goalscoring record last season and notched on debut for the seniors in the Carabao Cup.

'It was a pity with Liam because he arrived in pre-season and the first day he was injured,' Guardiola added. 'He's an exceptional striker. He might be the most requested player we have had since we arrived but we count on him, he's going to train with us.

'It depends what's going to happen this season, if he has minutes or maybe we decide on another option.'

There's lots of discussion about how we got lucky with the false 9 and will be found out, but is it that simple?

Messi, Mbappe, Ronaldo have all played regularly on the wings as well as playing more centrally. Our biggest rivals over the last few years, Liverpool, don't play with a conventional striker. Aguero hasn't been used in many of our big games, and Jesus is nothing like a conventional striker. One of the reasons City targeted Kane is his ability to drop deep - his assists last year were often 'false 9' assists where he played in the wingers from deep.

Last season we had 7 players with ten or more goals - we've been one of the top scorers in the big five leagues not just because of Aguero, but because of the number of players contributing. Many of the players who top the goals charts are there because they're the focal point for their club and chances are filtered through them. Aguero was one of the best ever PL players, but I believe there was a comparison a while back that showed we score more goals when Jesus plays instead of Aguero.

Sterling, Jesus, De Bruyne and Torres have all played front and centre for us, and they all have very different styles. They often rotate throughout the match, so "working us out" is much more difficult that working out a conventional striker.

Many of the top goal scorers are more like the hybrid players we already have, and with Grealish joining, and Foden getting more experienced, I wouldn't be surprised to see us continue to outscore everyone else.

There might be times when we see a ball flash across goal and the commentators will say "if only they had a striker", but I bet the plus column of goals from "non-strikers" more than outweighs them.

I think we do, though I’m not sure, but I also think the examples you provide make a reasonable case at least.
