What made you support Manchester City?

Family in manchester that are all rags, thought I'd be a bit different. Also the 4-3 game with Spurs in the FA cup was the first proper football game that entertained me after years of witnessing utter shite in Scotland.

Not a choice. My Dad took me from age of 6 and I wasn't aware there were any different options.

Saying that if my Dad would have been a rag then so would I. Very pleased he wasn't.

Actually hate to say it but some of these replies are quite embarassing. If they were posted by rags about why they support the scum we'd be groaning and taking the piss.

I was born in Sheffield and lived just the other side of Hillsborough Park from Wednesday's stadium until the age of 6 when my parents moved us to Manchester in 1988 and the first lad I met at primary school was a City fan, as were the rest of his family, so by hanging out with them I naturally became a fan too.

Still living in Manchester today, I'm proud to have gone through both the highs & the lows like everyone else... unlike the lad who got me to support City in the first place!

Yes, he jumped ship & became a Rag as the first season of the Premiership/League was ending (can't possibly think why!) and so I don't think I've spoken to or even seen him for roughly 20 years - for a combination of reasons including going to different secondary schools, generally losing contact and having zero respect for a turncoat.

Needless to say, I like to dedicate the success we're currently experiencing to people like him... you've had this coming!!!

Born and raised in Wisconsin and didn't get into football until the World Cup was over here in 1994. Hell, before that I had hardly even heard of "soccer". I caught the bug after the games and was looking for a team to support. Around the time Oasis started breaking over here. With the Gallagher's being City supporters I figured why not. Damn them ;) I had very little clue about relegation and everything else. Scouring the internet on a shitty dial-up modem trying to find a score somewhere for when we were playing "away to York" was a nightmare. Went to my first match in 2001, and still manage to make a handful every year. It's been a ride, but wouldn't change it for the world.
Great read that!!

I'm the third generation of City fans in the family and I fell in love with City properly at the age of 10 when I was taken to regular games by my father. Despite being born and living down south most of my life I just feel there is something about supporting Manchester City that most football fans I speak to could never understand -it just seems more than a football club.

-- Sun Jan 08, 2012 1:09 am --

Live and was born in Watford, just outside London, so obviously infested with rags, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea fans. Dad is an exiled blue who moved down in his twenties, so it was City or nothing for me. I'm one of four, and my younger brother tried to support the rags for a while, until we beat them in the derby 4-1 in '04, when he mysteriously changed his mind...

First year we've had season tickets this year, after mainly scraping tickets for London away games and maybe two or three home games per season for years before now, and we've missed just Everton and Wigan so far this season.

Hey mate, I have an almost identical situation to you. Which school did you go to in Watford? Not seen many blues around these parts.

Dad brought up as a blue. Took me to my first game when I was six. Got a season ticket in 98-99 (7 years old). Fell in love and the club has probably been the most important thing in my life since the 99 play off final.

I just kind of liked them, then i saw the main road massacre and everyone else in the family was devostated (all rags).

That was the clincher.

Disclaimer: I was only 8 so since i had a real informed opinion about footy i have been blue.
Before that i was to busy slaughtering woodlouse.

born in Plymouth ,when i was 5 (now 46) my mothers friend bought 3 scarf's for me and my 2 brothers .being the youngest i had the last pick ,a man city scarf, they picked the arsenal and Leeds ones.ive been fighting their case ever since.
