What problems will Covid solve ?

Globalisation is finished.
global tourism will be much lower.
schengen is meaningless as is the EU. Note that all nations closed borders and are bringing people home from around the globe.
Countries have banned export of medical equipment the moment this started, borders went up straight away.
The world will be very different and I think probably for the better. I expect manufacturing to become much more local and that will be good for the UK.
The airline industry will look very different.
Fair comment. I also think people won't be as greedy, erring on the side of caution and saving more.

Excellent post mate.
And why do executives have to fly overseas for meetings when they can do it digitally.

Hopefully after Charles jumped the queue for Covid testing it will be another step towards a republic.
'were all in it together' is bollocks, its one law for royalty and another for us.
I’m not a rabid royalist, but he’s the heir to the throne. What sort of country wouldn’t test its deputy head of state, especially given his age and that of his parents. Not sure that’s going to be the defining moment in your desire for a Republic, mate.

I'm completely indifferent to the royal.
Don't hate them,Just think it's an out of date concept.
Get the fact that they'll be looked after as a matter of course.

The announcement yesterday about the test smacked of P.r though imo.
We most definitely are not all in it together,at least to the same degree.

I found it irritating,I'm sure many others didn't however.

It is an outdated concept, I agree. Is there a society in the world where everyone is ‘in it together’, though? Whatever we replace it with will almost certainly be as unfair and iniquitous.

Yes,the cynic in me agrees.
I'm aware of how real life tends to trump the ideal.
I can't help moaning about the injustice from time to time though.

Here's a terrible thought. The virus could be the making of Manoo.
1. The banks call in the debts because they have no income, which breaks their bank covenant.
2 Glazers can't pay so have to sell, in whole or in part, to meet the liability.
3. In comes the white knight to rescue them. Even if they only take a minority interest, they can exert pressure to stop the Glazers using the club as a personal cash cow.
4. Manoo start spending the new spare cash on players and mending the roof.

Don't tell the Saudis.

One of the great fears of modern football is that the rags are bought by someone looking to put money in rather than bleeding the club.
We'll be OK provided they keep Teddy Three-Planks in charge at the swamp.

I feel this whole thing could be a global game changer, and for the better.
Pre-virus the world seemed to be going to hell in a hand cart. The UK was split, and very bitterly, down the middle after brexit vote. Ten years of austerity and 'hands off' government has seen a huge rise in the gap between rich and poor, workers being treated like dirt and the vulnerable being discarded. We were at the 'every man for himself' junction.
Money, growth and profit have been the mantra. The notion that 'we are all in this together' and 'for the many not the few' was total horseshit.
Now however, it seems we have almost instantly begun to think about others again. Families are becoming more important again and we seem to be putting health and happiness before the pursuit of money.

I like how people think that anything will be learned from this. During the last pandemic, China banned these wild animal markets, and that only lasted a short time because basically money talks and governments are corrupt. As long as it remains cheaper to manufacture abroad, huge corporations are going to do it, and the inevitable financial crash will be all the excuse they need to argue against any restrictions on trade that might threaten a recovery.

For me personally, our school are using this as a reason to roll out virtual classes long term. To be fair, they were already doing it in some countries anyway, but now everyone in a company is being trained to do it so they might as well offer it.
Unfortunately, this is true. There’ll be lots of talk about needing to change, a small number of things may change, but after a few months the world will go back to its normal way which is the wrong way.

I’d love this to be the end of capitalism and the world change to a resource based economy. But it won’t!
